So I'm purchasing this truck, but when I get it I want to improve the speakers...I know it has speakers on the dash and behind the bench seat fairly far up. Does anyone know the sizes/wattage of these speakers as well we the specifics of the am/fm/tape deck?

Any information regarding the stock setup would be appreciated.

Thanks.

My only advice would be to not use the rear speaker holes that are right up next to your ear. terrible place for a speaker, you may have to get creative on speaker placment to get acceptable quality sound. I had to put my amp behind the seat as well as a small sub box w/ 2 8's, I wanted a center consol so I built one and installed a couple of 6x9's in the sides, then 2 good after market stock 3 way replacment speakers in the dash, sounded great till I moved to a new place and I got ripped for half my system, sort of a "welcome to the neighborhood thing I guess".
I don't listen to that boom boom stuff either, I just like quality sound that is crystal clear where I can slightly feel a little of the bass in the seat of my pants, my system was all pioneer, and thats what I will replace it with when I get a chance, but opinions vary on systems.
"now I set my alarm no matter how good I think the neighborhood is". lol.

Thanks for the advice, you're right, I was trying to think of a way to put speakers elsewhere. I'm not one for subwoofers, simply because with the right set of speakers you can tweak them to sound like you have a woofer.

I have a 300 watt amp (which is now half blown) and two 80 watt concept 6x9 speakers in my current car. People always ask me how many subwoofers I have.

Ideally I'd like a similar setup for my new truck, I suppose I'll see about a custom box or two for some 6x9's and setup a new amp/deck.

Yea your right about the right combe and speakers, most of the cars I have installed in, 6x9's worked well for bass, I had a toyota x'tra cab many years ago with 4 6x9's across the back that sounded like the bump bump cars.
but with my 91 I had problems getting any bass, or any quality sound for that matter out of the stock locations, but my 91 is the HD style and has no carpeting at all, rubber type mat on floor, only metal cab behind the seats,
"though it does have the cloth bench seat", my work and play tend to get the interior muddy dirty, and I wanted to be able to hose it out a bit when needed, but this settup does not help sound quality, so I had to keep trying diffrent settups over the years till I found the right one for the truck and me,
sound quality was important to me because I spent so much time in it, at times 18 hrs a day for work alone, now that I have to replace the stolen componants I'm thinking of changes again, lol.
I'm sure you'll find the right settup for yours, just wanted to pass on how terrible those stock locations at your ear are, nothing I tried there worked.
good luck.

I ended up dumping two speaker boxes behind the seat with an amp and a new deck. Disabled the stock rear speakers completely.

Works great :)
