Soon to be WIP 4.6L FWD Monte. Need tips..corning_d3 06-04-2006, 04:10 PM So I've finally aquired a 4.6 Northstar caddy engine, trans, subframe, PCM, harness...basically the entire front end of a FWD caddy. I'm going to stuff it in my '96 Monte 3100. It's gonna take a while, but i think i can do it. Can anybody think of any potential problems up front? I know it's gonna take a lot of electrical work....as far as fabricating things, i have access to a manual lathe and end mill. maxwedge 06-04-2006, 08:20 PM How about engine/drivewtrain weight? Strength of the stock axles and will the fit the Cad final drive? If using the N' star axles, fit to the stock hub and axle length? Naturally fitting an exhaust will be interesting. corning_d3 06-05-2006, 01:23 AM I've thought about weight, because this car is already a heavy-weight. I've aquired the entire car, so I'm going to modify the engine cradle, lower control arms, axles and hubs off the caddy, so i can keep the drivetrain happy and keep the stock engine/trans mount locations. I don't have any idea about exhaust yet. richtazz 06-08-2006, 03:37 PM Your biggest issue is going to be fuel pressure. Your car's fuel pump only produces 41-47 psi, and the caddy motor requires 48-55 psi. I'm not sure if a caddy fuel pump assembly will fit in your tank. Since you have a complete donor car, as long as you have fabricating/welding skills, you should be able to do it. corning_d3 06-08-2006, 05:09 PM That brings up an interesting point. My fuel pump is capable of producing 150psi, but I'm not sure if it will FLOW enough fuel to keep the beast happy. Which brings up another question.. Will a high quality 3.4/3400 fuel pump flow more than the 3100 pump? I ask this because both pumps will fit in my tank. EDIT: Nevermind, both pumps have the same part#. Anybody have any flow numbers for this pump? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
