easy SR20 power upgradesGrimL3 05-30-2006, 04:21 PM Hey everyone, ive posted a few times before in here regarding SR swaps, but i finally got my engine months later, ive read up on the easy upgrades and things that should be done once the swap is completed, such as a FMIC, downpipe, exhaust, radiator, all the pretty much neccisary to start. but what im asking for help is for what are some of the first performance parts i should get after that. the easiest way to get some more power out of my SR. thanks in advanced `jer lucky13garage 05-30-2006, 05:55 PM Blacktop or redtop?? s15 right?? GrimL3 05-30-2006, 07:05 PM S13 Blacktop. im looking for over 250whp , or there abouts Chuki_breath 05-30-2006, 07:31 PM injectors and a tune would be good AWDSR20 05-30-2006, 07:39 PM injectors and a tune would be good true, PLUS NEW bigger turbo, GT2835 is nice turbo. (NEVER buy used units, trust me) cams 265 or higher cam gear head gasket springs (for the cams not the shocks!) rocker arm stopper ported head fuel pressuer regulator O2 wide band Z32 air meter (MAF, if ur running on MAP u don't ned that; ie,if u have the D-getro Pwr FC u don't need it) LSD to put that power down safelly lol... HoosierDrifter 05-31-2006, 01:35 PM tubular manifold turbo2nr 05-31-2006, 06:19 PM TURBO BACK, intake, fmic w/ pipes, pump/ injectors/ safc mbc @ 14-16psi you should be good for 250 and throw in a bov for good measure not sure if the stock one will hold up. sidewayzS13 06-01-2006, 01:32 PM lets go backwards real quick what all do you already have right now? GrimL3 06-01-2006, 05:36 PM bone stock everything. My SR is hanging from a chain in the garage. with the old KA sitting nicely next to it. ill be getting all the essentials ( i.e exhaust, fmic, radiator, fans etc ) that are usually standard in a new swap. im looking at having the engine in within 2 weeks, and enough dough for the goods in a bout a month. -The Stig- 06-01-2006, 07:21 PM I put down 252whp with a Redtop SR20DET with just FMIC, 3" turbo back, Greddy intake manifold, tubular turbo manifold (header) and a EBC set at 15psi. I also had a very over sized radiator, a very efficent fan, along with powersteering removed and the stock fan removed. All on stock T25 turbo and injectors... and no tune. Months later I dyno'd again and put down 247whp. Biggest factor in loss of power was weather, first time I dyno'd it was 60 some degrees (fall), second time it was spring time and was 85 degrees out. So, with minimal put into it, it can be done. But that's pretty much the limit of stock injectors/turbo setup for a SR20 from what I've seen. turbo2nr 06-01-2006, 11:08 PM ^ you are not teh real stig for top gear are u? Chuki_breath 06-01-2006, 11:52 PM yes he is. -The Stig- 06-01-2006, 11:57 PM yes he is. And if I keep saying that to myself, maybe someday I'll believe my own lie. Chuki_breath 06-02-2006, 12:02 AM lol, that would be sweet though. AWDSR20 06-03-2006, 01:20 AM the stig is the man yo... 89'SIL-40 06-03-2006, 11:04 AM YA, Dont forget the fuel pump!!!Very important....i even heard you have to replace ur pump every 15.000km....they burn out after that.....i'll see on mine in 14,000kms.Get it tuned and get a HKS adjustable wastegate...they're like $100 and worth every penny. If you can up your boost SAFELY!!!Do it....more boost really helps your power......1psi= 10hp....so i hear! http://i5.tinypic.com/11jlu6h.jpg -The Stig- 06-03-2006, 03:24 PM Ahh yes, good point, I forgot to mention I also had a Walboro 255 fuel pump as well. AWDSR20 06-03-2006, 08:07 PM YA, Dont forget the fuel pump!!!Very important....i even heard you have to replace ur pump every 15.000km....they burn out after that.....i'll see on mine in 14,000kms.Get it tuned and get a HKS adjustable wastegate...they're like $100 and worth every penny. If you can up your boost SAFELY!!!Do it....more boost really helps your power......1psi= 10hp....so i hear! no, fuel pumps don't "burn out" every 15000km although a Volt regulator is a must. don't get adjustable wastegage... save $$$ and get a boost controller. the way the unit works if far better then the wastgage. 10 ho for ever 1 psi is not correct, its is far more complicated then that. boost to power is exponential not linear. sidewayzS13 06-05-2006, 09:19 PM id get good motor mounts while your doing all of this. and dont buy cheap anything GrimL3 06-06-2006, 09:48 PM my thoughts exactly, my nismo 3 piece engine tranny mounts will be here thursday. and im painting the engine bay this weekend. im going to run the stock radiator / fan without the shroud till i can offord to get the koyo and electric fans, which will unfortunately force me to drive it sparringly... but i need wheels at the moment, so the sooner the better next week is my fmic, ill post pics of my project thursday hopefully whttrshpunk 06-06-2006, 11:22 PM I've been driving my SR with stock usdm radiator for 10 months or so now with AC running, in gulf coast weather (85-100, high humidity) with no problems. I do not have a shroud but I do have 2 perma cool fans that always run when the engine is on. The clutch fan is also still connected. I drive my car hard pretty regularly and it's never overheated. Before my next stage of power upgrades (gt2871r .64, bigger injectors, MAP, manifold) i will be upgrading the radiator, but at that point I hope to be laying down around 320whp. GrimL3 06-07-2006, 06:50 PM ive got a question regarding BOV's and hotpipes. ive noticed that some kits have the BOV flange on the hot pipe, and others are just a hotpipe. if the bov flange isnt on the hotpipe where will it be? are hotpipes with a SSQV already welded on a good idea? Pavlo 06-09-2006, 05:54 PM uum, the other pipe???? And if you want ssqv, then go for the pipe, less work for you. If I had an SR, the easiest way would be: s15 t28, boost controller, and a good intercooler. What should give you about 250whp. Your injectors will be crapping-out about there though. JDMsux 06-10-2006, 11:45 AM 10 ho for ever 1 psi is not correct, its is far more complicated then that. boost to power is exponential not linear. actually, it's more parabolic than it is exponential. If you run too much boost the turbo will just start blowing hot air. AWDSR20 06-10-2006, 02:11 PM actually, it's more parabolic than it is exponential. If you run too much boost the turbo will just start blowing hot air. btw FMIC drop the temp of the charged air. but yeah, ur talking about te extream end of the spectrum bro. 89'SIL-40 06-10-2006, 02:34 PM Stock rad's are good up to xxxhp.....aslong as ur not overheating its ok! My friend has 350hp in his sr and stock rad and stock fan and he has no problems. The HKS wastegate IS FINE!!! As for the fuel pump i here they start dying down and you DO start running lean. http://i6.tinypic.com/13zphu0.jpg JDMsux 06-12-2006, 12:24 AM btw FMIC drop the temp of the charged air. but yeah, ur talking about te extream end of the spectrum bro. the extreme end of the spectrum? t25s are past their efficiency range at 17psi and that's far from extreme. Hit_N_Run-player 06-12-2006, 12:40 AM at the local strip, a guy with an SR ran a 13.0, and when i went to talk to him i asked what he had and the only upgrade he said he had was the basic I/H/E, and EBC running 19psi. On stock injectors and stock t25...what a tool. AWDSR20 06-12-2006, 01:41 AM the extreme end of the spectrum? t25s are past their efficiency range at 17psi and that's far from extreme. i was talking about the relation of boost to hp.... 17psi is ALLLLLOT for a tiny weeny OLD and USED t25 GrimL3 06-12-2006, 12:56 PM alright, well back to my project. heres a couple pictures My new tranny mount, and one of my new engine mounts http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/GrimL3/two.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/GrimL3/three.jpg the old KA with a cracked head finally came out http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/GrimL3/four.jpg my tired old tranny mount http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/GrimL3/five.jpg and heres some pics of the car itself, it will be recieving a new paint job once the swap is complete http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/GrimL3/one.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/GrimL3/3.jpg ill hopefully have my SR20 sitting in the engine bay next week -The Stig- 06-12-2006, 02:56 PM ooo a S13 dash that isn't cracked... don't see that too often. Looks nice overall. GrimL3 06-12-2006, 08:51 PM yeah, thats what made me jump on that puppy, 250 for the car, interior is near mint minus a small tear in the drivers seat driftking777 06-13-2006, 12:46 AM you know...i've owned 3 240's now...and not a single one has a cracked dash...maybe im lucky... rollhard 06-14-2006, 05:17 PM I am a big supporter of WI or Water/Methanol injection. I have used it on all my turbo charged cars (well except my XB, but will soon) and it has worked wonders. Being in CA, and only able to get 91 octane at the local gas station, the WI really stands out when upping the octane and helping my engine against knock. It shines on the dyno also. I have never dynoed a car losing power with WI. Probably the best bang for the buck imo. HoosierDrifter 06-14-2006, 11:17 PM AWDSR20 06-15-2006, 01:00 AM xb with balls...... nice what a wast of money....sure it will be somewhat fast and uniqe but...why on a XB? anyways, back to the topic on hands HoosierDrifter 06-15-2006, 03:19 AM what a wast of money....sure it will be somewhat fast and uniqe but...why on a XB? anyways, back to the topic on hands yea.... my bad if i designed one.. it would be badass rollhard 06-15-2006, 02:50 PM what a wast of money....sure it will be somewhat fast and uniqe but...why on a XB? anyways, back to the topic on hands Why is it a waste of money? What if money wasnt an issue here? I''ve done what I wanted to do in my mr2, done what I wanted in my 2 eclipse turbos, done what I wanted with my civic, done what I wanted with my s13 (rb25det and sr20det), so what if I thought the idea of a box running high 12s was not one of the most hilarious things for me? I love the idea of spanking people in a goofy looking box. 200hp+ on a 2400lb car is a lot of fun. Thats why.... GrimL3 06-15-2006, 04:49 PM im not much of an XB fan myself, like driving a big refridgerater.. i got my downpipe and my hoses and AIV plug, all thats left to buy is my Front mount, hotpipe and BOV, and my SR will be alive. anyone wanna paypal me a grand?
