Sorry I took so long to get back to you. I'm the one who started out with a code 52 that later turned into a code 27 on my 92 Ram Van 318 with mpi. I finally found time to pull the cover and look for the problem. I guess this will probably go down as the most unusual problems a person could find but I do want to let the forum know what the problem was. After making the usual tests with no results I started checking all of the wires. I found where some of the wires had been chewed on by a pack rat who had moved into the engine compartment while van was parked. One of the fuel injection wires was cut in two and a number of other wires has small parts of the insulation chewed on. I fixed the wires and that solved problem. I guess this proves the old adage to look for the simplest things first. Thanks Stamar and the rest of the forum for your help.

your welcome.

Im amazed my advice helped you based on the information i had to go on but i did honestly say the first things that would go through my head.

you gave me some incorrect information as well because if that were the case the motor would be running very unevenly and that information would have helped me eliminate some possibilities.

gl with your van hope it lives a long time.

i mean its going to break down constantly but i hope youre in touch with it and keep it going forever.

Thanks again for your help. I think your last sentence says it all. We have had this van for two years and it has died on us at least 6 times, but it always started after a couple of minutes. My wife and I both hold our breath every time we shut it off to get gas when we are on a trip. Looking back over these two years I think that before this latest trouble the computer, which had a loose connection inside, was the cause of most of our troubles.
after I had the computer changed the van was pretty reliable.
