1999 Chevy Prism 100,000 miles

I am looking for an idea of what I should be expecting for possible upcoming maintenance. I took ownership of my car at 19,000 miles and it's now at 100,000. I have not had to do anything beyond oil and filter changes, tires and rotations, etc. My car hesitated and chugged while trying to accelerate up a hill just the other day. I'm wondering if this may be related to the new gas formula somehow, or are there common problems that arise around this mileage? By this time I would expect to have to change the brake pads or something soon at least.

You haven't had to replace your brakes yet?! Wow. I'm in a similiar situation with 100k on my 99. I've had to replace front brakes already, with the rear brakes upcoming soon. Common problem I guess...my starter needed new internal contacts (it started clicking alot), which was a $10 fix.

Replace the spark plugs. Have the fluid changed on both the transmission and differential [easy to do]. Replace your front brake pads. Replace your serpentine [alternator] belt. Drain and change your coolent.

As soon as I find the funds I plan on handing my car over to my mechanic to do a "tune-up". I happily call him my mechanic because he has proven time and again to be knowledgeable and fair, so at my word you can hopefully be able to gauge your possible upcoming maintenance. I'm trying to make that happen during June early July, so I will post what I find at that time on this thread.

Any other pertinent/interesting/useful information is gladly read and filed away by myself and friends.

Shammppo guy what a great fixed. A mechanic told me the starter had to be replaced when it did the clicking thing. I got a used one at a online junk dealer for much less then a new one. A new starter was around $180 and my used one was about $50. I had the mechanic install it.

I own a 99 chevy 3speed automatic prism that has around 95K mile below are the last two years of repairs on it.
- replace starter with a used one from an online junk yard
- new spark plugs wit dual gaps
- Drain both transmission and differential ATM myself.
- Belt and thermostat.

I also had the dreaded code error p0441 and po446 and the mechanic replaced EVAP purge solenoid for $180. Which never fixed it the issue. So my engine light is still on but I just used the free OBD computer check at autozone to make sure a new error code don’t come up. They want $1400 for a new ECM to fix it. Yeah right.

I did purchase a newer model used engine computer aka PCM (power train control module) aka Elec Cont Module (ECM) for $60 bucks at a junk dealer online but have not got around to finding someone else to install it.

I also have the air bag light on and paid $150 for them to replace connectors which again didn’t resolve the issue and I now just ignore the light. I felt burned by these extra costs that did not fix the issues so I haven’t felt inclined to spend more money to fix them.

let me know if that scrap ECM works. I dont think that the problem tho, my wifes' prizm throws that code depending on the weather conditions, Goes on and off when ever... i suspect the fueltank pressure switch. they're under the rear of thecar and get all rusted and shitted up. We can still sneek it through when we have our NYS inspection, by clearing and driving a few hours.

I had to get a bolt replaced on front exaust gasket and muffler 1999 Prizm. Also sway bar end links (front), canister filter (toyota part), front pads and rotors. Air filter :)

To add to the list, I replaced my spark plugs and wires with NGK after my car was sputtering in 1st and 2nd gear. Problem fixed.
