'88 escort dies and rough idleDDibbern 05-20-2006, 02:49 PM I’m working on an ’88 escort and it won’t stay running... Does any one know how to test the ICM or the TPS on this vehicle? Has anyone had a similar problem and know what repaired the problem? Details: ’88 escort 1.9L TBI (CFI) 9 engine code. Symptom: Car won’t idle, needs to control idle manually. Doesn’t matter if it’s warm or cold, in our out of gear... Notes: I feel it’s either the Idle control motor (ICM) or the throttle position sensor (TPS). However these items are $50 - $100 each which is around 2-3 times the cars value... Davescort97 05-21-2006, 12:59 AM Take that ICM off and lubricate it. Got a 97 that has an IAC (idle air control) and it would idle really rough. Lubed it and was OK. I think the ICM is the same thing on the older scorts. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
