I recently had my 2000 Chevy Tahoe 5.7 looked at because it was running rich. I beleived it was my fuel pressure regulator that was causing the problem, but wanted an expert opinion before I made in repairs. The GM Certified Mechanic informed me that all my intake gaskets (lower, upper, etc...) were bad, along with the fuel pressure regulator and that the repairs to everything would total over $1000. I thought this was pretty high, so I informed the dealership that I'd take care of the repairs myself. I bought a GM regulator for $70 and the intake gaskets for $28. I then replaced the fuel pressure regulator and upper gaskets (the origional upper gaskets were fine and I didn't bother with the lower gaskets). I noticed that the dealership never even inspected the intakes or the fuel pressure regulator because there was still dust and deprise where the bolts were and no fingerprints anywhere. Its a good thing I did the repairs myself because the dealership was clearly trying to take advantage of the customer, again. Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know what happened so they may be able to prevent this. :screwy:

You have to remember that there are not many techs out there any more, most of them are just parts changers.

Thats interesting. I wonder if the part techs are considered mechanics then? Anyway I don't trust GM dealerships anymore. But I guess they need to make their money somehow eh. Its the sad world we live in...:shakehead
