2005 Silverado noise?Davewm 05-17-2006, 01:37 PM I have a 2005 Silverado with a weird noise that sounds like it is coming from the right lower part of the windshield. I guess it is some type of wind noise because only hear it at speeds of 60 mph and up. It sounds like rain or hail hitting the lower right side of the windshield. Has any one ever heard of this or I'm I the only one with this problem? Thanks Dave kenny-1907 05-18-2006, 05:35 PM It is most likely the rubber strip that runs around the perimiter of the windshield. Lots of other trucks have the same problem as mine did. If you look closely at the windshield on the outside edge you will see the rubber i am talking about, this is supposed to be sealed to the windshield but it comes loose and basically flaps in the wind. You could reseal it in place with either some 2 sided tape or silicone, but considering the year of your truck maybe you still have warrenty and have them fix it. Mine does not flap anymore since i had to have the windshield replaced because of of rock on the highway. Rammer500 05-19-2006, 08:45 PM It's the vertical strips along the windshield that's causing that. It's worse if you install a wind deflector on the hood. If you pull down the weatherstripping from the doors at those strips, you'll see that they are screwed to the "A" pillar. Loosen those screws, clean the glass and apply a thin bead of black silicon to the edge of the glass. Not to much, as you don't want excess squeezing out. Hold down on those stips while tightening the screws. Put the weatherstrip back in place and let the silicon cure. Or, use quality 3M automotive double sided tape to stick the strips to the glass. Davewm 05-20-2006, 10:59 AM Thanks for the help. The truck has only 7,000 miles on it is that molding bad? I guess what I'm trying to say should I take it back to the dealer or are they just going to put silicon on it as well or the double sided tape. I do have a bug defelcter on the truck. What did you do to fix yours the tape or silicon? Thanks again Dave JCL82 05-20-2006, 05:33 PM With only 7000 miles on the truck man i would take it to the dealer and let it be there problem, that sounds like a factory problem, not wear and tear. I wouldn't pay them anything either. wrparks 05-20-2006, 05:56 PM Yea, I had the same problem appear when I added one of the aftermarket hood flare/deflectors. It is much more noticeable going 70 mph on a windy day. Sounds like there is some packing tape flapping around under the dash on the passenger side. Irritatin, but almost used to it now. I had been planning to post this same question for a while. Thanks. Now what are the odds that if I take it to the dealer they won't honor my warranty and say it is because of the aftermarket parts. Rammer500 05-21-2006, 01:35 PM My dealer is 25 miles away, I'll spend the 20 minutes fixing it myself than driving and waiting at the dealer for such a fix. The moldings aren't bad, just when you change the aerodynamics on the front the air goes over the hood differently. When you buy the GM hood deflector, they include 2 sided tape just for this reason. I used the black permatex silicon adhesive available at most auto parts stores. sportin83 05-21-2006, 01:38 PM i have the same thing on the passenger side somewhere, how did you guys fix this? what strip are you talking about with screws? and does anyone have pics of this? thanks Rammer500 05-21-2006, 01:51 PM Open a front door. The weatherstripping (for door) on the pillar by the windshield, pull this down. The strip that this wetherstripping is attached to is the moulding that covers the outside vertical edge of the windshield. This is screwed on the "A" pillar. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/8/web/2048000-2048999/2048760_11_full.jpg sportin83 05-21-2006, 11:43 PM my noise appears to be coming from passenger side but on top of the windshield not the side. Rammer500 05-22-2006, 03:52 PM Mine sounded like the right side top of the glass also. This sounds like something tapping on the glass. Rookie#1 08-10-2006, 06:13 PM I also had the same problem. I layed duck tape in the suspected areas until the noise stopped. Then out came the black rtv. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
