Trunk Release

I have 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix with auto trunk release. It stopped working last week. I can hear the release working, or trying to work, but it does not release. What could be wrong? And where could I get a replacement?

Did you try gently pulling up the trunk lid while attempting the release? I have an issue with my 99 lid getting kind of stuck and not allowing the latch to fully release.

I tried that but it is not sticking like that. Again, I can hear the release working, just does not release.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this problem or where to get a replacement part, other than the dealer because we all know the dealer charges a fortune? Thanks

The AC-Delco part number is 16640848, and runs $34.88 dealer retail.
