i was thinking of getting a class 2 hitch installed (but only towing sub 1000 lbs still) on my 2000 GTP sedan. i know that i'll have to be easy on the throttle to avoid possible transmission damage (i assume that this is the reason it is not recommended in the manual). so far my GP has never left me stranded and has over 100k miles. anyone else towed with their GP? am i pushing my luck? i'd appreciate any feedback,

thanks in advance

I have a hitch on mine. It was installed by Uhaul along with a tranny cooler. I tow two 4 wheelers in summer which runs about 1600lbs with the trailer. No issues yet. Watch the brakes though, they can get hot fast. In the winter I tow a couple of sleds on the same trailer,,,about the same weight.

I too have a hitch that was installed by U-haul on my 2000 GP SE. I've only hauled on of the small U-haul trailers, but I did have problems with my rotors warping. I ended up replacing them and everything was good.

your gtp has the rear ground effect, that may need to be removed before you can put a hitch on it......I've only personally seen hitches on the grand prix SE's. Gt's and GTP's all have the rear air dam(ground effect). I'm not saying it can't be done, just givin ya some heads up.

My GP SE has a hitch on it but the guy before me put it on i think... i don't really know i have never used it. It wasn't an option for the GP back then was it? I don't really know but i have one.

hey i hadn't been on the forums in a long time but just wanted to post for anyone looking up this thread in the future -

the class 2 hitch worked great on my GTP. i did get the rotors replaced before i attempted the move (i still had the factory rotors) and so my braking was smooth and linear even with the 800 lbish trailer (loaded). went 1600 miles and didn't have any problems. nearly a year later, it seems the transmission and suspension are still fine. i accelerated VERY slowly while hooked up to the trailer though, and always depressed the accel pedal slowly even while on the highway. just fyi for anyone else interested.
