->I haven't been on here for a while now because i've been in trouble. I got busted racing a honda civic (one of my friends). I have to go to court about it and thats an all too familiar place for me. My radar detector didn't pick up anything so i told the cop i was under the speed limit and just horsing around. Does anyone have an ideal of what they will do to me? Fine or worse?
->Just throwing this in... after i got the ticket i met a mustang in town and raced again before i even got home...

What was the ticket written for. Depending on the city it could be nothing but a fine. If it was for street racing then again depends on the city. Here in Jax. FL they are cracking down hard on it as there has been several deaths of innocent bystanders. Here they are siezing vehicles, probation, community service and some cases jail time. Take it to the strip where it belongs. If you don't have a drag strip talk to your local police department many cases they will work with you to find someplace to hold "street" races in a controlled enviorment. If they won't then you will need to find a property owner who is sympathetic to your cause who will allow you to use their land.

I was in Shelbyville, kentucky. In the Post-arrest complaint section is says ->
1) Racing motor vehicle on public highway
-> and it called my car the "above car" so i won.... sort of... the crown vic really won. I didn't violate the speed, as far as they know... can they get me for wreckless driving or something, am i screwed???

In Michigan, getting a ticket for Racing is 6 points on your driving record, and possible vehicle seizure. It is considered wreckless driving, and could get your license revoked. I hope you make out ok, but since you raced again after the ticket, you obviously didn't learn your lesson.

well here in the good ol' commonwealth of kentucky, they REALLY frown on racing (at least the judges do)...if you are convicted of racing you will most likely have your license suspended for 6 months, and you can forget about insurance after that...i know here in Louisville they are really tough on you, but w/ a good lawyer you might get it knocked down in shelbyville to a lesser offense...if the cop didn't specifically list reckless driving as a violation, they can't charge you with it after the fact (unless they knock racing down to that, racing is worse) a friend of mine got busted a couple of years ago, and while he got to keep his license...i think it cost him like 1500 bucks with fines/lawyer, etc...good luck, and keep it off the street...

In Texas, racing on a public road is a criminal offense (Class B Misdemeanor) which means you can be fined up to $2,000 and get up to 6 months in jail if adjudicated guilty. The problem is the cops will arrest you and impound the vehicle so you will spend time in jail until you bail out.

Reckless driving in Texas is also a criminal offense (Class B Misdemeanor) but with only a maximum of up to 30 days in jail and a $200 fine if found guilty. The problem with Reckless Driving is the State in most cases has to prove you intentionally and knowingly drove reckessly on a public road causing either property or bodily harm damage. Normally they just pop you for racing (higher) offense which is bad enough considering you could get your driver's license suspended and suffer much higher costs on insurance.

When in doubt always consult an attorney familiar with your jurisdiction and State laws to see where you stand or preserve your rights.

One more question... Can they make it worse on me for having a previous problem in the court, its not really a traffic violation, but can they judge harder on me for a previous offense with the law from a while back (not street-racing). I hope i can get on the inside of this court using friends and connections to help me along with this. Since they didn't have me for speeding, and i wasn't crossing lanes or causing traffic problems with other drivers, i hope i don't get it to bad... ill try to show off my ride on the track from now on... Ohio Valley probably...

yes they are going to take your previous offense in consideration with setting your fine but i dont think that you wont get your license taken away if you arent a junior driver or in the probation period

I was racing a Civic Si one night and let off at abut 120, the kid comes flying by(I had honestly beat him by about 4 cars) and as soon as he clears my car, bue lights hit... I was like f*ck this, so I did the dumbest thing I have ever done, I didn't stop and I punched it again... I got EXTREMELY lucky in that the Civic guy panicked and pulled over, I guess he thought the cop would continue to chase me... After I had no blue lights in sight, I got off the highway and onto a back road, found a church parked behind it and gained my composure and then thought about how stupid I had been...

I haven't raced on the street since and I honestly believe that was a wake up call, I counted my blessings and haven't pushed my luck again...

they build drag strips for a reason anyway...

the kid with the civic got his car impounded for 30 days, lost his license for 90 days, had close to $2400 worth of fines, and got his insurance cancelled, he has yet to find a company that will take him for less than $700 a month, which he can't afford.... He is only 18...

that could have very well been me...

on a side note, a guy I know is a fill-in county deputy(he is cool though) and he said that the P.A. on my vehicle that night was "A white sports car, possibly a Mustang or a Camaro"...

So I had nothing to worry about anyway :)

Well i'll guess i'll find out what happens soon. The guy in the Civic has court before i do so i should now exactly one week in advance what i can be expecting when i go. I'm a little worried about bad luck because his court date is on 06/06/06 (666)... little scary if you ask me...
