Belt Replacement on 91 cavJJ Newel 05-13-2006, 08:02 PM I gotta replace my belt on a 91 cavalier RS with the 2.2 L engine, is there a trick or secrete about doing it on this car because i just can't get it on and yes i am moving the tensioner but it isnt helping. Any help would be great please put instructions or tips. THX everyone. OverAllComa 05-14-2006, 02:24 AM It's possible that the tensioner's gone stupid on you. Consider unbolting the alternator to loosen the belt. JJ Newel 05-14-2006, 01:01 PM Yea the old tensioner broke so i put on a new tensioner and now i'm having a hard time putting on the new belt, i did rotate the tensioner but i don't see how its loosening tension on the belt. OverAllComa 05-14-2006, 01:59 PM It should turn the other end of the tensioner. If it doesn't, you may have gotten a defective replacement. Like I said, if it still won't work, you can route the belt and loosen the alternator then tighten it back down once you get the belt around the pulley. 89Sunbird 05-15-2006, 06:26 PM If all else fails, just unbolt the alternator or alternator pulley and tilt it until you can pull the belt off... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
