Hey everyone, I just bought a 2001 Grand Prix GT 72k miles on it and I got a couple questions see if u guys can help.
The car runs excellent except that I think the gas pedal is too stiff? Is this the way its suppossed to be?
Because I also got a Grand Am GT 2000 and the Gas pedal is so sensitive? Does it need some WD-40 or grease or is something wrong?
Also the oil light comes on for like 20-30 seconds when I turn it on?
Is this ok or is somethin wrong. It never comes on when I'm driving just for a lil bit while I turn it on?
I've heard these GP's are very reliable and you can get a lot of miles on them, what's the average mileage befor they start giving u serious problems???
Thnx for your answers

Is it the yellow change oil soon monitor or the oil pressure light? The oil life monitor will stay on for about 1 minute and then go off. To reset it turn the switch to the run position (do not crank ) and press the gas pedal 3 times within 5 seconds and wait for the light to start flashing and go out. Then you can turn switch off and then back to start and it should not come on.

I've had mine for 5 1/2 years, 84,000 miles and so far, no major repairs that were manufacturing faults. Besides the normals brakes, rotors, tires, and oil changes, here's what I've had to replace:

windshield wiper fluid motor - very easy to do yourself for about $20, takes longer to jack the car up and take the tire off and on.

a/c condenser - mine got a hole in it - couldn't do it myself, cost about $600.

blower motor resistor ($64 at repair shop, including labor). The blower motor resistor isn't expensive, but it looked like a pia to get to and when the local shop quoted me $64, I figured I'd let them do it. My fan for my a/c and heater controls started going out. First the low speed went, then 2, 3, and 4 went and only high would work.

My check engine light was on for awhile with a code that said EGR valve was bad. After reading messages on this board, I tried cleaning the egr valve and replacing the gasket. Light still on. Took the pcv valve off and tapped the orange ring seal down, put it back together, and the light went out.

Those probably sound like a lot, but I don't think of them as uncommon problems. The a/c condenser was a fluke happening. Thought I'd type these out in case you experience any of these problems. All in all, I've been extremely happy with my 2001 GT!!
