Disadvantages To Gutting Airbox

I just gutted my airbox, and it seems to good to be true are there any disadvantages?

noise level is increased (blower whine) and a slightly rougher idle in hot weather

guys is the whining noise present when car idles? I am wondering If I should do the same this, however I dont race, barely speed and do not like cars which are too loud. I have jap economy cars with loud exhausts which trigger the cars alarms when they pass by.


I wonder if the noise will be too loud or too whiney. I must point out the car will be used in daily high traffic driving. Stop to stop, light to light... I live in queens, NY. So maybe that would be a bad this for me to do?? What do ya say

there is no blower whine at idle. You only hear the blower whine when it goes into positive pressure, pretty much only durring acceleration. You do not hear it at cruising speeds either. I have an intake on mine that is loud at idle, especially when it is cold. You can hear the engine sucking in the air, but no blower whine.

its not LOUD just noticalbe if you know what a blower whine sounds like. if you have the radio on or the windows up you will probalby not even hear a diference unless you acc 3k RPM or higher. i love the sound it makes :D

lukedogg is right.. you hear a whine under acceleration and the suction noise when the car is cold.. i dont even really notice it at all on the hwy unless i really get on it to blow by someone
