Windshield Leakjeverett 05-11-2006, 02:56 PM Yeah, i know a 97 isn't considered a NBS silvy, but I know y'all dont mind answering this. If you do, too bad. I noticed a small puddle in my Pass. side floormat this morn after all the bad weather yesterday. I also noticed it seemed to be coming from the upper part of the windshield on that side. Is there any way to fix it w/o calling the glass repair man? i dun wanna fork out $60+ to have it re-sealed b/c its not really a big leak. Just something small and irritating. silverado122775 05-11-2006, 03:25 PM You can buy sealant and any hardware store. (clearcoat) and re-seal the windshield. it may cost you maybe $5. I did it to my Saturn and it worked great! japesto 05-11-2006, 03:37 PM I have a mystery leak. Water on the drivers side. Took to dealer, they checked a/c, high pressure water over the cab and windshield and could not find a leak anywhere, said to bring it back and let them keep it a whole day to take seats out and dry out the carpet and check for where the leak may come from. Any one with the same problem out there? silverado122775 05-11-2006, 03:45 PM I have a mystery leak. Water on the drivers side. Any one with the same problem out there? why would they check the A/C if the leak is on the inside of the cab? Nun the less, it could be a leak on the bottom of the windshield that is leaking into your dash and then onto the carpet. How and where (specifically) did you notice the leak? japesto 05-11-2006, 05:19 PM why would they check the A/C if the leak is on the inside of the cab? Nun the less, it could be a leak on the bottom of the windshield that is leaking into your dash and then onto the carpet. How and where (specifically) did you notice the leak? A roll of paper towels laying behind the drivers seat was soaked, I lifted the Husky mats in the front and the carpet was soaked. As I pushed my fingers forward the water would puddle up. I've had the pick-up for 3 weeks, used the A/C frequently, gone through several downpours...sitting and some driving down the highway. Vaccumed the water up and it would come back. Now the weather is clear and I have dried the carpet out today, ran the A/C some, and still dry. The previous owner just told me they never had any leaking problem ever. Does this help? Thanks. vnotaro 05-11-2006, 06:08 PM If you can see water around areas of the windshield, then definitely get some clear silicon and try to seal it yourself. If not, check the condensate drain for the A/C. If it's clogged, it will overflow into the cabin, normally forming a puddle on the passenger side. silverado122775 05-12-2006, 10:52 AM yes it does.. Like what vnotaro said.. try to reseal the windshield using a clear silicon. You can pick it up at any hardware store for less than $5. Make sure it will stick to glass, medal and plastic. it will take a full 24hours to cure 100%. So make sure it is done a dry day. After it is dry take it to the care wash and check for leaks.. if it still leaks check the silicon and make sure it stuck properly.. I had to do my Saturn twice before I got it right. jeverett 05-15-2006, 11:21 AM The outside of the windshield aint the same on my 97..its got some kinda hard metal thing above the seal and I dun wanna bust the thing and have to fork out the $ for another windshield silverado122775 05-15-2006, 11:40 AM I know what you mean. I had a 93 Silvy. you should be able to still use the silicone to seal the area. Apply it just under the medal strip and the windshield. I would consentrate more on the lower side though.. it sounds like that is where the leak is comming from. japesto 05-15-2006, 10:18 PM Thanks for your help and information on the water leak guys. I am enjoying the dry weather (and carpet) right now. I am also keeping my fingers crossed that it will not leak again. I talked to the original owner and they said it had never leaked on them, so maybe the mechanic could have been right when he said "maybe someone left a window down". I'll keep you informed yea or nay when and if it leaks again. Sharp Z71 you have S122775, I had a '85 SWB 4X4 black and chrome that was almost this sharp. silverado122775 05-16-2006, 11:21 AM Thanks Japesto. I use to have a 93 Slvy that was charcol grey. hard to find trucks like that again. Inharmzway 02-03-2007, 09:39 PM Hiya, I am an autoglass Tech, for 17 years now. my first suggestion... you need an air compressor to blow air. spray around the exterior of the windshield with glass cleaner. then from the inside use anair nozzle to blow air around the interior edge of the windshield. if their is a leak. air bubbles will blow on the outside. works everytime. if no air bubbles, then you will have to remove the cowling, run water under the cowl, not touching the windshield. go inside and peel the carpets up. if the leak is on the passenger side, water is more than likely coming through the ducting, if on the driver side, it may be running down the wires through the firewall. if it is one of these, contact me and i'll tell you how to fix it. good luck HanibalTheCannibal 02-03-2007, 10:18 PM from a bodyman's persepective DO NOT use silicon sealer. Get a hiigh grade Urethane window sealer made by 3M. It is available at autozone for $14 a tube. You need a caulk gun. Silicone will not adhere well to the rubber windshield gasket or the already installed urethane. Urethane will stick to anything even metal. You will have more of a mess than you can imagine using silicon. Silicon also promotes rust in those hidden crevasses. Urethane is the best way to go. Good luck to you either way vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
