99 Trooper: CEL, brakes, headlights and other assorted goodiesmetomwhou 05-05-2006, 06:28 PM Hi folks, Its been about a month now since I brought the troop down to Bosnia and I already gotta CEL!! I have a feeling (fingers and toes crossed too) that its the gas over here. Just a coincidence but almost to the mile of turning 73k the CEL came on yesterday. I've put about 6 tanks or so through the truck since I picked it up in Germany. I just ordered a code reader so it should be about two weeks before I get that. In the mean time the rear brakes are dragging and sounding horrible. I don't remember changing them when I did the fronts so its probably time to do that. So.... I searched ebay and came up with a few solutions. I figure I might as well change everything since I have the extra cash and don't really know whats happened to it in the last three years. Can you check out the links below and tell me what you think? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8046605524&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ISUZU-TROOPER-92-02-DRILLED-SLOTTED-BRAKE-ROTORS-PADS_W0QQitemZ8061569887QQcategoryZ33564QQssPageNa meZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem -The only reason I'm even considering the slotted rotors is because we plan to move to Germany soon and I figure they might help with the higher speeds we'll be going, we were averaging about 90-95 on the autobahns on the way down and that kind of speed takes its toll on brakes, especially on this big of a vehicle. -Do you think braided lines would be worth it,if so do you know where they can be found, I've scowered ebay and found nothin'. -If you know of a better place to get Trooper parts, please let me know. -Also, what are the HID bulbs you guys are using, I've seen some advertised on ebay but I remember reading something here about a specific brand. -Can't think of anything else right now. Thanks for keeping this board going, you were spot on with the brake fluid problem last time so I hope you can keep the track record intact :grinyes: Thanks, Tom amigo-2k 05-06-2006, 09:08 AM Honestly, I wouldn't trust the aftermarket junk for brakes on Ebay. I would stick with isuzu parts only (at least for the pads). I highly doubt you need new rotors in the back unless you can feel plusating. As for isuzu parts, contact St. Charles isuzu in the states and I'm sure they can ship you the pads. As for new lines you can purchase them here: http://www.independent4x.com/item.jhtml?UCIDs=839915%7C1016330&PRID=1221569 But honestly, if you are not lifted or have 200k on your current set I think it is a waste of money. 90-95 mph is way to fast for a full size suv to be moving for anything more then a short distance (but that is just my opinion). metomwhou 05-06-2006, 08:04 PM Hey Ryan, Thanks for the feedback. I can't say that I'm feeling pulsating so just a change of pads maybe the ticket but I just wanted to be on the safe side and change everything out since I don't really know what the guys at Firestone did when they took my mom for a $600 ride two years ago, but thats a different story. Driving in Germany is way different, they go from bat-out-of-hell mode to LA freeway crawl in no time flat!! I'm just looking to get the troop prepared for that and yes, 95mph in the troop is too fast, I was just curious to see if it would handle it and it did, I doubt I will do it everyday but its nice to know that it will handle what i ask of it!! I'm getting the ole boy spruced up this week, its got three years of tree yak and sun damage so it needs it. This guy I found does pretty good work and should have it looking close to new. Thanks for the links, do you have a number or email for that Isuzu dealership? I need a new windshield too, any idea where I'd look for one of those? I thought about trying to source one locally but I'm not sure if a non-US spec Opel part would work and I know it would cost an arm and leg if these guys had to get a US spec part over here. BTW, just as silently and mysteriously as it appeared, the CEL dissappeared today as I was signing my wife onto base. I got out and when I got back in two minutes later it was gone. Damnedest thing, but I'm glad I got the code reader on the way. Thanks again, Tom amigo-2k 05-06-2006, 11:00 PM metomwhou 05-20-2006, 06:13 PM Got my code reader the other day, a Geniscan GS100. Plugged it in and the codes were P0402: EGR Flow Excessive (according to the manual that came with the reader) and P1404: manufacturer specific Any ideas, is this good or bad. What does P1404 mean? Thanks in advance, Tom amigo-2k 05-20-2006, 11:48 PM yup, You need to clean your egr. See the FAQ's for the how to. 15-30 minute job and cost 1 can of carb cleaners. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
