I have a 95 Gran Prix, with 100,000 miels on it, was my friends car i jsut bought it, and it has been overheating liek crazy.... I didnt want to put the time into fixing it so i took it to the shop and jsut get took for 900 bucks... 10minutes after i leave its back to overheating faster than it did before???

I had the intake gasket changed, radiator flush, supposedly a thermostat changed, as well as the fan relay sensors.... The fan kicks in at 210 degrees, though the coolant starts boiling out of the overflow... Anyone have any ideas, on what next??? I know that there was little coolant in the oil but that i believe is from the intake gasket, and it still ahs power and runs great until it gets hot.. SO somowne help plz, id like to avoid taking it back to the shop as how can they have fixed it and not even thouroughly test the initial problem before taking my money and letting me drive off......

Any help is appreciated..

thx

Welcome to AF!!

You didn't say what engine you have but this sounds like air trapped in the system. Common on these newer cars so you need to get the air out of the engine. With the engine cold and the nose of the car pointed up hill remove the radiator cap and start the car. When the engine gets hot enough for the thermostat to open the coolant level should drop. If it does then refill and repeat. There also should be a bleeder screw on the top of the thermostat housing. You can open this too and allow the air to escape but you need to keep tabs on the coolant level. Hope this helps!

Also don't drive it very far before changing the oil if it wasn't changed at the shop where you had the intake gaskets changed.

Sorry it is a 3.1 Liter, and thank you for the prompt assistance. I had a thought that might be it, and will try that out today. Again thanks for your help... Hopefully it works if not ill repost again... :grinyes:

if they didn't change the oil when they changed the gasket, i wouldn't be in no rush to take anything back to them cuz thats a no-brainer. that can do damage.

The oil was changed, when they did the intake gasket, so im just keeping my fingers crossed that i can get the air out of the system and that solves it. THank you for the response.
