Hi, I have a 97 GP GT 3.8, 111,800, non-supercharged, no mods. I'm wondering if there are any advantages of installing a 180 thermostat in the summer instead of the currently installed stock 195 degree stat. For instance, does the lower temp stat help keep the engine and trans fluid cooler during the hot summer months. I'm in southern Mi and it does get hot here.... Thanks for any input.

I was actually wondering the same thing only for my 3.4L DOHC (I have to rip it apart to do gaskets anyways)...
I was also wondering if there was any adverse effects of this in the winter months...if so I would guess it should be switched back to stock...

A 180 degree stat will certainly open than the 195 degree one. It will keep the engine cooler but it will also cost you a little fuel mileage. A lower temp stat can give you some performance due to a cooler charge going into the engine but make sure the fans turn on properly after you change the thermostat. Sometimes the fans will not turn on at the correct time and can result in overheating but usually a 180 degree stat will work with no issues.

Yes very good thing to do, heat is a killer on motors it will keep everything
cooler trans and motor.

I run 180's in all my summer daily drivers, can always switch back to your
195 come winter............
