Does anyone have any idea why my brake lights would work just once--right after I start the engine--and then are dead after that? The top brake light doesn't work either. All fuses and bulbs are intact. It's a 97.

Bad ground connection? Could be some wires that get hot and just short it. But I dont know.

Sounds like you will have to break out the test meter (can't believe I said that - terrible pun)

You can test to see if you are getting 12V at the bulb holder. Use a seperate ground on the test meter. If you are then it's a grounding issue most likely. If you aren't then I would check the brake switch and move forward or back in the circuit from there. Do you have any tow bar wiring? That can be a source of many problems. I would look at that first if it is aftermarket wiring.

Check the brake switch under the pedal.
