Ford E350 Van-oil Pan-please Help

:banghead: HOW DO I GET THE OIL PAN OFF MY 1987 EFI 300 6 CYL.:crying: I UNDID ALL THE PAN NUTS AND IT ONLY CAME DOWN A LITTLE BIT, I TRYED TO LIFT THE MOTOR WITH A PIECE OF WOOD AND A JACK, AND THERE JUST ISNT ANY ROOM FOR THE PAN TO COME OUT THE BACK,, :rolleyes: ..... SO WHAT DO I DO:uhoh: ........ CAN ANY ONE TELL ME THE EASY WAY TO DO THIS, PLEASE

I've done a few of these, and even when you have it "right" it's still a pain in the backside. Have you removed the oil pump pickup? Usually you can hang the pan down just engouh to get in there with a socket and wrench and remove it. Usually if you remove the pickup you can snake the pan out the backside with the engine jacked up, but with the pickup in, forget it. Otherwise, make sure everyting between the engine and the top of the engine compartment is removed, I don't recall there being much on the 300, I know the 460 had that damn intake that was a pain. Anyhow, now I'm telling war stories so I'll wish ya luck and shut up.

Hi, While the pan is hanging there, Clean the pan and block surfaces and then sneak the gasket around the oil pump pick up, Next clean the gasket becase you will probably get residual oil on it from dropping it in the pan to sneak it aroun the pick up, Next apply a light coating of silicone to the engine block, applly the gasket to the block and then put the pan up, It's actualy an easy job, This is an old trick and it works and saves a bunch of time...GOOD LUCK....Clay...

If you must remove the pan then you need to remove the motor mount bolts and jack up the engine. Also he is right the oil pump and pick up must be dropped. If your pan is not rusty then slipping it around also works. If you are dropping it to put bearings in it...forget it it would need a crank to last.

You probably need to remove mount bolts to raise engine, I have the same question 4 a 351.:banghead:
