Turbocharge or good old NA powerstone_mound_camaro 04-25-2006, 10:06 PM I was thining of things i might do to my hypothetical LS! camaro. Should I throw a turbo on there after im all done with heavily modifying the engine.I wanna know what you guys think....so....answer the poll! and of course add your comments. goldz28 04-25-2006, 10:08 PM There is no question in a poll... Non that I can see. I think a supercharger would be cool, I have seen some maros with theml. I think the kind of charger was a vortec supercharger. camaromaniac 04-25-2006, 10:09 PM i hope this aint your daily driver, but turboed ls1 would be great stone_mound_camaro 04-25-2006, 10:10 PM wow.. u guys answered to quick. i was still creating it stone_mound_camaro 04-25-2006, 10:13 PM i hope this aint your daily driver, but turboed ls1 would be great thats also something ive been pondering...why does your MPG go down on a heavily modded engine? i mean if you do things like exhaust, intake FI, but dont mess with the gas affecting parts..camshaft i guess, fuel injectors why does it even affect gas effieciency? Mr. Luos 04-25-2006, 10:14 PM My set-up would cost to much to go turbo right now. But I would supercharge the hell outta my car if I could afford to. Maybe some day. For me...I would get new heads (bigger chambers for lower compression--shoot for 9:1), a D1 ATI ProCharger, and a more boost oriented camshaft. 15 PSI on a 402ci. :icon16: 666_speed 04-25-2006, 10:14 PM turbo is great, but to really boost a car a good amount you need to drop the compression really low and at really low compression the car isn't as fun to drive.....and at cost, i'd go with NA but thats just me 92zcamaroperson 04-25-2006, 10:20 PM a big camshaft is what is going to take your mileage down. But even with large cams ls1's are known to still get great highway mileage. If you go N/A your going to have a big cam and depending on your tune you gas mileage wont be the best. If you go turbo your going to need more fuel to match the increased amount of air which will take your gas mileage out. But with the ls1 you should still get fair gas mileage if you keep your foot out. Only with a good tune though. The ls1's efficiency and computer are responsible for being able to make a lot of power and yet still be good for daily driving. I should be a spokesman for GM or something.... 92zcamaroperson 04-25-2006, 10:22 PM oh....and I would go n/a now and then leave room(forged motor) for a turbo or supercharger later. Rally Sport 04-25-2006, 10:36 PM I'd go with turbo, but it also costs alot of money to do it.. so im still leaning towards N/A.. unless its the only way to get power out of the engine (Like my 3.1 v6) stone_mound_camaro 04-25-2006, 10:37 PM is there enough room under the hood or would i have to go STS? 92zcamaroperson 04-25-2006, 10:39 PM there is room. you may have to move some things but there is room. You would have to fab your own headers unless you can find a kit that has the turbo under the hood. Savage Messiah 04-25-2006, 11:58 PM oh....and I would go n/a now and then leave room(forged motor) for a turbo or supercharger later. Agreed. 97cavalier 04-26-2006, 12:10 AM how about forged internals and nos, it is cheeper. I think i am going to do NOS on my 350 after i get it all built. Rally Sport 04-26-2006, 12:29 AM My only problem with nitrous is that it can mess up your engine.. ive seen some really good engines go boom because they decided nitrous was the next step.. of course it can be used safely when its done right, but there's always that chance.. Not like a turbo couldnt mess up your engine too, but thats different. :icon16: 97cavalier 04-26-2006, 12:33 AM ya when i run nos i plan to have forged internals and plently of fuel upgrades. Dyno247365 04-26-2006, 12:36 AM I've seen a pretty badass turbocharged LT1 on streetfire. I think turbos are great on V8, the sound, and the sheer boost!! Rally Sport 04-26-2006, 12:38 AM I've seen a pretty badass turbocharged LT1 on streetfire. I think turbos are great on V8, the sound, and the sheer boost!! I know what you mean, the main reason why i'd ever want a turbo v8.. Dyno247365 04-26-2006, 12:50 AM ZL1power69 04-26-2006, 01:00 AM i saw an awsome 00 t/a in person with the STS rear mount system runin 7psi. that thing was bad ass, but it was kinda wierd to hear the roar of a V8 followed by a blow-off valve. Dyno247365 04-26-2006, 01:02 AM i saw an awsome 00 t/a in person with the STS rear mount system runin 7psi. that thing was bad ass, but it was kinda wierd to hear the roar of a V8 followed by a blow-off valve. inner conflict :evillol: I don't see what's so great about sts systems though, the turbo should be under the hood FormulaLT1 04-26-2006, 01:26 AM There is no question in a poll... Non that I can see. I think a supercharger would be cool, I have seen some maros with theml. I think the kind of charger was a vortec supercharger. I like the way you think :icon16: . On that Note guess what my new best friend in the whole world Link sold me? (I would like to also give a special thanks to 92Z for making it possible  ) FormulaLT1 04-26-2006, 01:31 AM That was a decent turbo clip, I think this is one of my favorites though http://media.putfile.com/Turbo-Camaro-Burnouts (lol, mostly cause of the song though) Dyno247365 04-26-2006, 01:53 AM That was a decent turbo clip, I think this is one of my favorites though http://media.putfile.com/Turbo-Camaro-Burnouts (lol, mostly cause of the song though) that burnout is insane, torque and boost just lights the tires easily stone_mound_camaro 04-26-2006, 01:07 PM http://videos.streetfire.net/search/LT1/0/02B12D63-5C00-4E4D-B3E9-CC72E5159C02.htm http://forums.aspeedracing.com/images/smilies/eek.gifThat was insane! Ive never seen any lt1 or street looking car go that fast! I could watch that all day. If it makes your car go significantly faster...its all good. See a v8 already has a lot of power...your just adding to it with a turbo charger. A rice car usually doesnt have any power until the turbo is added. Then and only then is it fast. FormulaLT1 04-26-2006, 02:56 PM super charger man come on, no turbo, ITS A RICER THING You can actually make more power with a turbo than a supercharger but it involves more work. I love superchargers and the basic ease of them but if I wanted the most power possible, I would go turbo all he way. Just look at Andys GN, It was making insane power like 1000 horsepower area. Thats crazy, how many of the 3.8 supercharger boys you see making that kind of power?. 92zcamaroperson 04-26-2006, 03:00 PM zero. BLAZINGZ28 04-26-2006, 03:11 PM super charger man come on, no turbo, ITS A RICER THING What's rice about it, it's alot better and more efficient than a supercharger. I would choose a turbo over a supercharger anyday of the week. Dyno247365 04-26-2006, 04:03 PM Why not take both? the Koenig Testarossa had a supercharger and twin turbos making godly power, overkill? why not 92zcamaroperson 04-26-2006, 04:18 PM there wouldnt be a point unless you had a motor that could take 80 psi of boost. stone_mound_camaro 04-26-2006, 04:21 PM there wouldnt be a point unless you had a motor that could take 80 psi of boost. turbo diesel LS1 anyone? 92zcamaroperson 04-26-2006, 04:42 PM ...how the crap would you do that? lol Diesels dont even run 80 psi do they? wrightz28 04-26-2006, 04:49 PM super charger man come on, no turbo, ITS A RICER THING So em, a Grand National is a ricer? I'm confused. wrightz28 04-26-2006, 04:51 PM Deisel is high compression all on it's own, that's it's concept. stone_mound_camaro 04-26-2006, 05:56 PM ...how the crap would you do that? lol Diesels dont even run 80 psi do they? not 80 psi but can happily take numbers >25 psi ZL1power69 04-26-2006, 06:01 PM So em, a Grand National is a ricer? I'm confused. haha exactly. and ever see that awsome twin turbo small block crate engine banks sells, 1100hp. only 30 grand  FormulaLT1 04-26-2006, 06:18 PM Lets not forget Callaway or Lingenfelter Turbo Vettes either. Sledgehammer anyone? Rally Sport 04-26-2006, 07:16 PM 92zcamaroperson 04-26-2006, 07:27 PM guarranteed to get 20+ mpg... ZL1power69 04-26-2006, 10:44 PM that new lingenfelter vette has like 750hp but i didn't know it was turbocharged. i still think the 80's callaway twin turbo vettes are awsome. they used turbos on alot of things but when they made the callaway camaro they just used an N/A 383. Mr. Luos 04-26-2006, 11:17 PM My N/A motor should make a little power. Even more with boost though. Savage Messiah 04-28-2006, 01:36 AM there wouldnt be a point unless you had a motor that could take 80 psi of boost. That is, unless you properly configure/set up/tune a twincharged setup... blower for the low end, switch to the turbo on the top end. goldz28 04-28-2006, 03:41 AM I like the way you think :icon16: . On that Note guess what my new best friend in the whole world Link sold me? (I would like to also give a special thanks to 92Z for making it possible  ) So inlighten me, what did you get??? Rally Sport 04-28-2006, 09:37 AM ...supercharger, c'mon Jeremy. :slap: FormulaLT1 04-28-2006, 10:01 AM I got my very own Paxton SN-93. The best part. Its getting here today. 92zcamaroperson 04-28-2006, 10:33 AM wow ...that would be incredible to see a motor run with that much boost. with 80 psi you would have to have an extremly strong block, and internals, and your compression would need to be like 6 to 1 or lower just to keep the motor from blowing up. Have fun with the blower formula FormulaLT1 04-28-2006, 10:37 AM Have fun with the blower formula Rally's coming over today? :icon16: 92zcamaroperson 04-28-2006, 10:48 AM Haha!! stone_mound_camaro 04-28-2006, 12:55 PM ooooo buuurrrnn...http://forums.aspeedracing.com/images/smilies/emot-flame.gif FormulaLT1 04-28-2006, 12:56 PM Guess what just showed up. I am going to be sporting wood all fucking day. stone_mound_camaro 04-28-2006, 01:08 PM hey... uhh i jus saw a vid of a turbo v6 3rd gen firebird beat a 95 lt1 formula. Those 3rd gen v6s are only like 3.1 liters, right? so im thinkin if i strap one on my 3.4 i'd have similar results? someone back me up here.... FormulaLT1 04-28-2006, 01:14 PM Yes, the 3.4 will easily take a T-25 and make around 260 horse and the fact is the 3.1 motor is basically the same exact motor you got only destroked very slightly. Some people use larger turbo's for larger gains and with supporting mods you will see even more gains but the LT1 is only at the starting line in mods, while when you go threw the trouble of installing turbo's. Which reguires special headers/manifold and a shit load of fab work. You basically got it as good as it gets. TransAm87 04-28-2006, 01:58 PM just curious, if he turbocharges or does any type of forced induction would it require a different torque converter or can the stock one handle the increase in power? oh and formulalt1, I havn't seen you on the firebird forum in a while where have you been? FormulaLT1 04-28-2006, 02:03 PM Super busy, I have been in the middle of putting putting on a new hood that I had to have prepped. I am also prepping the front bumper for a repaint. Rebuilding the tranny, installing a larger rear. Helping raise a litter of puppys and super busy with both my jobs. Basically no friggin time. Savage Messiah 04-28-2006, 04:46 PM hey... uhh i jus saw a vid of a turbo v6 3rd gen firebird beat a 95 lt1 formula. Those 3rd gen v6s are only like 3.1 liters, right? so im thinkin if i strap one on my 3.4 i'd have similar results? someone back me up here.... what color was it, it mighta been my friend dave 92z I wasnt talkign so much about the 80 PSI but about the combination of different FI methods Mr. Luos 04-28-2006, 09:07 PM I want a supercharger. :crying: stone_mound_camaro 04-28-2006, 09:17 PM what color was it, it mighta been my friend dave 92z I wasnt talkign so much about the 80 PSI but about the combination of different FI methods white turbo firebird Mr. Luos 04-28-2006, 09:30 PM I wonder.... My 402ci with low compression and 15-16 PSI from a supercharger..... :evillol: :evillol: stone_mound_camaro 04-28-2006, 09:40 PM I wonder.... My 402ci with low compression and 15-16 PSI from a supercharger..... :evillol: :evillol: how low of a compression would you need to get to run that? FormulaLT1 04-28-2006, 09:43 PM Its all good Mr.Luos. You can supercharge, then I will twin turbo and then you can twin turbo and then I will twin turbo and run nos and then you can add nos and then I will twin turbo and run nos and put the supercharger back on top of that and will be so fast that I can break the barrier of time itself , so I will go back in time and purchase your car before you bought it. So ha!!! Mr. Luos 04-28-2006, 09:52 PM    Seems to be how it goes John. I think I could safely run 15-16 PSI if my compression was 8.75:1. Maybe even at 9:1. Savage Messiah 04-29-2006, 04:27 AM white turbo firebird nope not my friend but I'm trying to think if this guy Tiago had a third gen... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
