"Twosrus.com, Twosrus.com, Twosrus.com." ... tales of driving Hyde on the streetJekylandHyde 04-25-2006, 10:23 AM I'm not stranger to driving vehicles that draw crazy amounts of attention (both good and bad). In fact, over a decade ago I used to drive this, http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/tnbw86mr2.jpg (http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/bw86mr2.jpg), and this, http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/tn65vw.jpg (http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/65vw.jpg). So, taking Hyde out and watching people's reactions is quite entertaining to say the least. Sunday night, after Cin & I escorted Noshoes & April out of PA, on the way home I pulled into a rest area to tighten down the dzus screw on my hood. I had noticed it popped up while driving. As I was getting back into my car, this guy rolls up next me and starts saying something that I could not hear over my exhaust and the distance between us ... so I got out. He said, "OMG, that MR2 is so awesome ... can I take some pics?" I said that was fine and Cin got out. We just stood there while he took some pics. Cin whispered in my ear, "I feel like a proud parent." lol ... that brings us to last night. I was out by myself putting some miles on the new engine and I stopped at Arby's. I pulled up to the front spot next to the handicap spot with the car pointing toward the building. I went in an got my food and sat down. There were 2 women sitting together with 5 or 6 little girls. At one point, a little girl turned around and was facing over the back of their booth looking at the car ... and she started yelling (not really yelling, but a very loud excited kid voice) ... "Twosrus.com, Twosrus.com, Twosrus.com" ... I called David Hawkins, owner of Twosrus, when I left Arby's and shared the smile with him. I wish I would have taped it ... it was reall cute :) 93rollaracer 04-25-2006, 10:30 AM http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/tn65vw.jpg (http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/65vw.jpg). Goddamn hippies!!! [/cartman] Musashi3000GT 04-25-2006, 02:37 PM you got a new engine in her? did the old one blow or was it just time for an upgrade? JekylandHyde 04-25-2006, 03:05 PM We installed a completely built engine (borde, stroked, oversized valves, etc) over the winter, but it failed on the dyno after putting down 493 rwhp. It's been rebuilt and we are back at it. ;) Musashi3000GT 04-25-2006, 03:24 PM Dude, I remember you had all this horse power and mad boost on the original and it had over like 160K miles or something and the block had never been opened! Those are some strong ass stock internals. :sunglasse clawhammer 04-25-2006, 04:09 PM His original engine had like 203,000 miles. JekylandHyde 04-25-2006, 04:18 PM I bought Hyde with 180,000 miles onthe engine and raced it for four years up to 203,000 miles making a max 440 rwhp @ 22 psi. On our last drag day on that engine we ran as much as 28 psi of boost and nothing oppoed but the OEM headgasket :) Igovert500 04-25-2006, 05:42 PM Was she pronouncing it (2's are us) or (Toys R' Us) because I could picture a little girl learning to read, getting a bit confused and extremely excited  Musashi3000GT 04-25-2006, 07:48 PM I bought Hyde with 180,000 miles onthe engine and raced it for four years up to 203,000 miles making a max 440 rwhp @ 22 psi. On our last drag day on that engine we ran as much as 28 psi of boost and nothing oppoed but the OEM headgasket :) thats freaking fantastic! that car desserves to be in the AF hall of fame. :) chevytrucks92 04-25-2006, 09:56 PM We installed a completely built engine (borde, stroked, oversized valves, etc) over the winter, but it failed on the dyno after putting down 493 rwhp. It's been rebuilt and we are back at it. So what all did it tear up when it broke?? And when are you planning on gettin it to the track? I'm excited to hear some numbers. They should be impressive. eps 04-25-2006, 11:45 PM You blew a built motor and are now on #2? JekylandHyde 04-26-2006, 06:22 AM Igovert500, I would have thought the same thing, but seh had it right ... she was saying "two" and not "toy". :) Musashi3000GT, is their an AF hall of fame?! :) chevytrucks92, crap happens. Running on my old, very convervative map and completely untuned for this engine, the first baseline dyno was 493 rwhp :) ... it's going to put down big power. It spun a rod bearing and that was it. If the dyno goes well this week, I will be autocrossing this Sunday to check out my brakes & suspension. Then, in two weeks I will be entering ............................ the Redline Time Attack!!! :D (If you do not know what this event is, go check out their Web site). The weekend after that is the big NHRA event at Atco and I should be there. eps, I would not say we "blew" the built engine. It was not as exciting as blowing it up ... we merely spun a rod bearing. Some kind of debris or something must have contaminated the oil and that was all she wrote. Either that, or something just failed. Unforuntately, when you put down that kind of power, the risk of things breaking is just a reality of life. ... crap happens :( rice(er) 04-26-2006, 10:23 AM Dude, I remember you had all this horse power and mad boost on the original and it had over like 160K miles or something and the block had never been opened! Those are some strong ass stock internals. :sunglasse toyota = legendary..............i keep saying it for a reason ;) JekylandHyde 04-26-2006, 10:30 AM If you all really want to be amazed, Hyde's tuner (NoShoes) could never figure out why Hyde' original engine would never take timing. We made that 440 rwhp @ 22 psi on very conservative timing. As soon as he would try advancing the timing would have detonation and other issues going on. Why? Check this out ... think this craters were causing any hotspots? Hyde's old head ... the piston looks the same! http://noshoesspeedworks.com/hydedamage.jpg -The Stig- 04-26-2006, 03:19 PM hot damn... pun intended. Doesn't look healthy... but shit, little Hyde ran like a champ regardless. He's an awesome dude. Igovert500 04-26-2006, 03:30 PM The weekend after that is the big NHRA event at Atco and I should be there. ( If I'm not in NY fighting a speeding ticket, I'll try to be there. Good luck. chevytrucks92 04-26-2006, 10:29 PM [QUOTE=JekylandHyde][chevytrucks92, crap happens. It spun a rod bearing and that was it./QUOTE] Well, you're lucky it didnt scar the crank and/or hurt the rod. And yes, I know all about crap happening! My engine is running strong and everything, but its had its little problems: broke a rocker arm 2nd time out this year, numerous oil leaks (around the oil pan, timing cover, and now the latest one being at the back of the intake), water leaks, and a transmission leak (pan gasket). We think we have everything cured with the exception of the oil leak around the intake. We got it almost stopped Sunday (went from 4 or 5 drips on the ground after I got back to the pit area to a small wet spot at the back of the intake), but we'll probably have to change intake gaskets to get it totally stopped. And yes, big power=big breakdowns, lol. I think that is one of the hardest things for people to understand that don't have a high performance (and I mean real high performance) engine/vehicle. Its not a matter of "if" you're going to break something, its a matter of "when". vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
