It's a nice write up, but there are a few errors and omissions.
On the year (10th digit), there is no U, it should read
v-97
w-98
x-99
y-00
01-up use the number of the year (ex: 2 is 02)
engine codes:
e- 3400 ohv (grand am, alero, minivans 97-05)
x- 3.4 DOHC (grand prix, cutlass, monte carlo 91-96)
9- 2.8 fiero
3- quad-4 sohc
a- quad 4 sohc HO
d- quad 4 dohc
t- 3.1 90-94
t- 2.4 quad 4 95-up
Hope this fills in some of the gaps and errors.

Only the rpo codes will give all the info, like my latest car, no one new it had side airbags till I checked the codes for all the options.

Thats true Max. Thats why GM puts the SPID label on the car listing all of the RPO codes showng what the car was delivered with. Now if someone would just give us a nice link to all the most current RPO codes?

BTW - How is your LeSabre doing? I don't know about you but I like driving old fart mobiles......lol. Also it takes one to know one.

Put urethane ft stabilizer links in it,put a rear sway bar on it, now it corners a ton better, 2.86 diff cruises nice, concert sound , dic, leather, dual 8 way seats, alloys, 30 on the hwy, doesn't handle like my LTZ did, but nice ride overall. I promise I won't wear a golf cap and sit too low in the seat ( can't at 6'2") LOL. Bob, try www.c2e.info/rpocodes/MODERNGMRPO.html

The RPO listing is similar to the one I have Max. It is fairly comprehensive but still lacks quite a few RPO codes for certain GM platforms, specifically of concern GM "W" and "N" body cars. For example it lists L36 as a V8 but it is the normally aspirated Series II 3800 engine. The 4T40 (MN4) and 4T45E (MN5) trannies for N bodies are omitted. The 4T65E-HD (MN7) tranny for a GTP or Regal GS is omitted. The 4T65E (MN3) tranny for Buick Regal LS is omitted. Also the differential codes are missing or incomplete. Doesn't show 2.93, 3.05 or 3.29 gearing. For example F83 is 3.05:1 gears. Just to name a few. :dunno:

BTW - New car sounds nice. No Monsoon sound system?

The list for current RPO codes is sooooo long, it would take a few days to type up. I have access to vin info, so anyone needing to know something specific to their car, drop me a PM with the last 8 digits of your vin and what you want to know, and I'd be glad to decipher it for you.
