96 altima skip just off idle, then smoothbracketshark 04-23-2006, 10:27 PM I've cleaned the distributor, replaced plugs and wires, even done the intake gasket. The skip I had originally is greatly reduced but it still has problems when the throttle is barely cracked ~45 mph in high gear especially. It runs through a spot where the motor just doesn't have power like it should, then it takes on off. I was thinking maybe the throttle position sensor was going bad then the check engine light came on. the code was 0605 (ECM). Any Ideas? Thanks jserrano 04-24-2006, 07:18 PM If that is really your code, and resetting it doesn't eliminate it completely, then the ECU is bad. bracketshark 04-24-2006, 09:00 PM I used the ECM to get this code, I assume its correct. Your reply read as though you doubt it. Have you ever seen a bad ECM cause this problem? Thanks jserrano 04-24-2006, 10:48 PM I've never seem your problem. But code 65, according to the service manual, means an internal ECU calculation problem. Don't know, maybe something else is bad. petes71 04-25-2006, 11:54 AM code 0605 for a 96 altima is cylinder 4 misfire. check number 4 spark plug, ignition wire, compression and injector. Did you replace cap and rotor? Check timing? Transmission fluid level? Change fuel filter? Look for vacum leaks? bracketshark 04-25-2006, 09:35 PM [QUOTE=petes71]code 0605 for a 96 altima is cylinder 4 misfire. check number 4 spark plug, ignition wire, compression and injector. Did you replace cap and rotor? Check timing? Transmission fluid level? Change fuel filter? Look for vacum leaks? I replaced #4 plug swapped #1 and #4 injector, cap, rotor and wires are carqest brand and less than 1 year old and timing has been set after I changed the o-ring on the distributor to keep oil out. Any Idea that the distributor could be doing this? It did get oil in it. I haven't changed the fuel filter latey or checked the transmission fluid. How can the transmission fluid level affect the engine running ability? That' a new one on me. I checked for vaccum leaks before I replaced the intake gasket. My book also calls for the ECM problem. Wonder what to do now. Thanks for the replys:frown: petes71 04-26-2006, 09:28 AM I thought maybe is sounded like the transsmission wasn't shifting right at high speeds and holding down the engine, Can't hurt to check:evillol: I would change the fuel filter if it has not been changed in a while. Maybe your Fuel pump or fuel regulator is on its way out. I think you distributor is probablly working ok because you changed the seal. Did you have this problem before you had the oil leak in the distributor? Also I know when the catylitic converter goes it will kill your engine power but I don't think it would effect you at only high speeds. Couldn't hurt to look under the car when the engine is hot. See if it is glowing red. You probablly should do a compression check on the motor. bracketshark 04-26-2006, 09:23 PM I hope its not worn out yet its only got 216,000 miles on it. Ha. This problem started all at one time, I guess it might be fixing to lay down but I don't think so. This motor is so clean inside and out you wouldn't belive it, absolutly no carbon build up in the intake when I had it off. Now to eat a little crow, my book does say that a code 0605 is missfire on #4 cylinder Where I got ECM problems I havn't got a clue, but after rechecking the codes this evening I found the code to be 0506 and my book doesn't show that one. Any Idea now? Again Thanks petes71 04-26-2006, 11:10 PM yeah my book doesn't show 0506 either. Try going to Autozone or Advanced Auto. They will plug in a scanner into your computer, that tells you the code number as well as the code description, for free. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
