97 taurus door air leakr5active 04-21-2006, 12:24 AM I purchased a taurus 4 door for my daughter to drive to high school and when you sit in the front seat on either side you'll hear air noise like the door or window isn't fully closed. I've tried to evaluate and I think the noise is coming from the windows. The doors seem to close and seal good I have electric windows is there an adjustment for them? or is there something else I should be looking for? thanks ken Willyum 04-21-2006, 02:17 AM I have an '02 SES and often it sounds like a window is open. Think it is a Taurus characteristic. If you monitor your daughter, she probably has the radio playing loud most of the time and doesn't hear it. (was the case with my daughter) r5active 04-22-2006, 12:32 AM Yes I do agree with most of the time. She has said she has noticed it also. Thanks for the chuckle. I've road in some and haven't noticed that thou. thanks again ken Willyum 04-22-2006, 01:08 PM I picked up some felt carpet padding at a carpet warehouse. Took the door panels off and spent some time fitting strips of material in the empty spaces thinking that I could cut down on the noise. Maybe if I had a db. meter I could have measured the difference but I don't hear any improvement. Ford didn't waste any $$ on padding. The thin glass lets noise right through. Some of the newer cars have thicker window glass. brokenantimatter 04-22-2006, 06:09 PM This occurs a lot of 3rd & 4th Gen Tauri. Road bumps (even small ones over time) & wrecks can cause the door to become offset on from the body allowing air and even water is some cases to seep in from the upper corners of the front doors. If you get outside and look you might even be able to tell the door has become offset. Also if you close to door tightly and can still push the door in more (1cm or more) then this would also be related to the door being off centered. Cajunblu 04-23-2006, 08:51 AM Put a piece of paper between the door and the door jamb close the door and try to pull the paper out. Try this all around the door and if you can pull it out at any point, then thats where the air is coming in. Mine was leaking a little so I stopped by this body shop they only charged me $20.00 to adjust the door. Check the weather stripping around the door and replace if needed. HTH... Robert fragmore 04-23-2006, 11:11 AM Here is what worked for me. Pull back the rubber molding that is between the window and door jamb on the outside. There was a small hole in the trim but no screw or corresponding hole in the door. I drilled a very small hole and put a screw in. I tightened the screw down and the noise stopped. The rubber springs back to cover the screw, so it looks good. I got this tip from a local body shop. Evidently FORD, in their haste to make money, never screwed the trim down, and the fellow that sold me the car had just lived with the noise. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
