I've owned this tbird for about 3 years now and love it I love the styling and how everythign wraps around the driver but I cant' trust the engine I just got my lastest problem and am stupifid by it I am getting an error code p0320 "ignitnition/distributor engine speed input circut malfunction" I'm told this could be the fault of my crank postion sensor but I don't believe it is. this is what happens while I drive
I can go about 10 miles and then the engine will start miss firing on all cylnders it sounds like and dies it will take about three trys to start it up again and then it will go about 1-5 more mile then do ti again once it stops and is turned off for awhile I can go another 10 miles no problems this is the first time it's ever done this any help would be aprreciated thank you

This may sound real silly but are your wires and plugs good...

yes we checked wires and spark we checked the coils we sprayed water on the coils when it shut off and it started right back up then shut off we did it to both coils were going to try the ignition module next

Is it a 3.8L or the 4.6L?

There is a slight chance that the cats might be cloged so much to where is is forcing the engine to shut off from too much back pressure and too much combustion gasses in the cylinder but I think that is highly unlikely. Besides that I dont know at the moment. I would have to think that it would have to be a part that fluctuates drasticly in temperature. I deffinately cant think of anything that goes along with that error code. Hope you figure it out soon.

Sorry too say we just replaced the cats and the front muffler within the past 2 years however I was having a small muffler leak and just fixed that before this started to happen so maybe it does have something to do with the pressure

I'd do a wiggle test on all ignition components while it's running. Check all the connections to the coil packs, cam and crank sensors. It's possible a sensor or coil pack is getting hot and shutting down.. The engine speed input signal is generated by the crank sensor..

well We changed out the wiring between the ignition module and the coils we replaced the ignition module still nothing

Then I'd almost lay money on the crank sensor or it's wiring being bad..

Well We replaced the crank postion sensor Last night and took it for a little test drive no problems brought it home today after work a nice long 20+miles 3o minute drive no problems so hopefully that cleared it up thank you all for all your helpful tips
