Considering I am pretty damn sure you're not gonna find a JL8 being parted out lol Elk 05-07-2006, 03:27 AM yup That sucks. If I was going to go broke I’d at least get discs up front. How much are disc brake conversion kits? Considering I am pretty damn sure you're not gonna find a JL8 being parted out lol I’m pretty sure the front disc setup off a 2 gen will fit on a 1 gen. Elk 05-07-2006, 03:31 AM Now that I think about it there are probably a lot of 70's GM cars with a front disc setup that could be used on a 1 gen Camaro. korndogg 05-07-2006, 01:21 PM conversion kits tun from about $700-$1000 for the front. When I do it, Im going to be going to 4 wheel disk. Oh and Elk. All of this stuff NEEDED to be done ASAP. If you would like to donate money for it ill be glad to accept it. Im sorry that I can not please everyone all at once considering it is your car and all. And I have to get it done by the 18th which was 3 weeks when I started. So Id like to see you get all of the stuff Im doing and a disk brake conersion kit on top of that. These brakes are just to hold me over until I can get the kits. The brake parts didn't cost me barely anyything due to my CSK discount. stone_mound_camaro 05-07-2006, 03:35 PM Is it a different experience trying to brake with drums? I dont think ABS drums exist do they? Elk 05-07-2006, 08:44 PM conversion kits tun from about $700-$1000 for the front. When I do it, Im going to be going to 4 wheel disk. Oh and Elk. These brakes are just to hold me over until I can get the kits. The brake parts didn't cost me barely anyything due to my CSK discount. I figured swapping discs for drums on front was no big deal. If your waiting till you can do all 4 I can understand just redoing the drums. Is it a different experience trying to brake with drums? I dont think ABS drums exist do they? They fade a lot faster then discs. They lose a lot of the stopping if you don’t take them apart and clean them a lot. They line between stopping and locking up the brakes is harder to find. And of course there not as powerful discs even when there working right. kahjdh 05-08-2006, 08:00 AM they're cheap and last twice as long though Elk 05-08-2006, 01:44 PM they're cheap and last twice as long though True, but it’s been my experience that replacing brake pads twice is way less work then keeping a set of drum brakes working right for the same amount of time. 1986Z28 05-08-2006, 01:51 PM why drum brakes are easy to change Elk 05-08-2006, 02:51 PM why drum brakes are easy to change Not as ease as discs. The drum is always rusted on the axle and when I get them off end of the axle the little bit of rust on the inside gets jammed against the brake shoes making it harder to get the drums off and when I do I have deal with all the springs and all the other stuff inside. Then I have to adjust them. And it’s been my experience that I have to take apart and clean and readjust the brakes 2 or 3 times to keep them working right before they wear out . With disc brakes all I have to do is take off the caliper clean it replace the disc and pads put the caliper back on pump the brakes to adjust the pads. And then they work till they wear out. korndogg 05-08-2006, 05:18 PM drum brakes arent as hard as your making them seem man. I do them all the time and they are easy as hell. If theyre stuck to the axle, you hit with a hammer a couple times. big deal. Oh and mine werent stuck to the axle by the way and I dont know when the last time they were taken off. Elk 05-08-2006, 06:25 PM drum brakes arent as hard as your making them seem man. I do them all the time and they are easy as hell. If theyre stuck to the axle, you hit with a hammer a couple times. big deal. Oh and mine werent stuck to the axle by the way and I dont know when the last time they were taken off. I was talking about dealing with drum brakes on a daily driver. I wouldn’t expect the drums to be stuck on your Camaro. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
