Is it possible, that my engine oil is leaking into trans. fluid?? Recently i've noticed that i was losing oil, but found no leaks. I don't burn it either. I checked trans fluid and i was surprised, usually it's red color, my looks like new engine oil... is it just me, or something is going on??

Assuming you have a '97 and up GP I doubt you are getting engine oil in the tranny or vice versa. Dextron III ATF is defintely red in color. Did you have a tranny service in the past where the wrong ATF was put in? Using a white paper towel pull the tranny dipstick and wipe it on the paper towel. Then see what color you get. However, old Dextron III will get brown or dark looking if it has been a while since replaced. But there should be a slight tinge of red regardless.

How long has it been since it was replaced?

I bought my car with 100k miles on it, it's 99 gp se 3.1, i've put already 53k miles. I don't know if anybody did anything to transmission before. Works fine, the only thing is that "new engine oil" color of my ATF. Is this a time to change fluid? Should i also change transmission filter?? If yes, how to do it? is it difficult? I don't wanna flush it, i'm afraid to do it. Still have to find out where my engine oil is dissapearing.... thanks for help

i was losing oil as well on my 97 gtp. I thought that i was burning or that is what my old mechanic told me. I found out i had a oil pressure switch that was causing me to lose oil, that was changed 2 weeks ago and i havent had any problems with my oil since. also check the cylinder cover to make sure that its tight, you might need to replace the gasket along the cylinder cover.

I say time for fluid change.

With that total mileage you need just a pan drop service. Dextron-III ATF and a screen filter. Do not get a flush either full power or fluid exchange.

Your tranny will hold around 7.5 quarts of Dextron-III ATF on a pan drop.

Can I do it myself. I try to avoid shops and dealerships. Anybody knows how?

Yes, I do all of mine in my garage at home. Need to raise car up so you can get underneath. Use jackstands. Let engine cool down. ATF will be hot. Undo the 20 plus 8mm pan bolts. Loosen gradually and get pan tilted to one side. Use a flat pan or container to catch the old ATF. Then remove all bolts and drop pan. Let old ATF drain thoroughly. The screen filter is removed by pulling on it down firmly. Remove seal, install new seal and then install new screen filter. Then inspect pan for metal shavings and anything else. Then clean up pan and gasket. Then re-install pan and gasket. Torque pan bolts to 125 inch-lbs. Then add about 7.0 qts Dextron-III ATF. Drop car back down. Start engine, check for leaks, warm engine up and then check level when hot. Should be up to the full mark or close. Add the remainder 1/2 quart if necessary. Take it for a test drive.

BTW - The seal will come with the filter. Use AC Delco TF304 filter kit. GM#24227477.

Run shift lever through all gears and do level final check in PARK.
