Hello everyone,

I am looking into buying a 1991 BMW 735il from a registered used car dealer. http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=21&paId=193005642&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&recnum=3&leadExists=true&criteria=K-%7CE-%7CM-_5_%7CB-2000%7CN-N%7CR-75%7CI-1%7CP-PRICE+descending%7CQ-descending%7CZ-80525&aff=national

The car is very nice, and only has 160,000 miles on it. The cost of the car is only 1,288 dollars (open for a bargin) There is one catch, however. The car, when I called them, has a blown head gasket. I do not know how much this problem will cost to replace. Can anyone tell me if I am getting ripped off or if this is a good deal? Thanks.

Let's see... I bought my 92 735iL from a private party for 3K. I asked the guy whom i was buying it from if it had any problem and he said his mechanic said everything was fine. So i test drove it, it drove fine. So i bought it, I drove it two hours home and when i got a 30 miles from home the car started to over heat. Apparently he had the waterpump, radiator, fan clutch, temostat, fan switch, the coolant resivor, and all the hoses replaced, but there was still a issue with it overheating. Long story short I replaced the head gasket, I did it myself w/ some help from my father and all and all it cost me about $400.00. I was quoted about 2K to take it to a shop and have it repaired. If you do it right you should have the head sent out and machined. You have to weight the value of the car and how much money you have to put in to it to fix. You still might have to replace all the rest of the cooling components. I got lucky on mine that everything else works in excellent condition. You might get lucky with yours its just a chance you take when purchasing used cars.
