I went and filled my Jeep up(gas)then returned home with it still running fine. The next morning when I started it,right away it jumped to 1500 rpms and stayed in that area(give or take a couple of hundred). When I'm in low gear(1st-3rd) I feel like I have the cruise control on!What could the problem be?Thanks

It sounds like you may have a bad TPS or AIC . year and engine would help Dale:2cents:

I also own a 97 xj, and every so often mine does the same thing. All I do is lubricate the spring on the throttle body with WD 40. It works every time.

First check for vacuum leaks.
I have had a bad TPS on my 98 but the tranny let me know that by not shifting properly. But you should still check it.
Make sure throttle linkage is closing all the way. you never know.

First thing is vacuum leaks. Check for one.
