My cruise control works MOST of the time but occasionally it doesn't. When it does this some times I can push the set button several times quickly and get it to kick in. Is there a way to check of the problem is in the unit itself or maybe in the button? Has anyone else had this problem?

My first guess would be that there is some "crud" keeping a contact from happening.....
If your old enough you might remember the old nintendo game pads and the button contacts need to be cleaned...

You might want to check for error codes also. I forget how to do that now, but your manual or a Haynes/Chilton book will tell you how. It is something like turning the key to the on position, then back to the off position 3 times, and then back to the on position. The check engine light then flashes the codes for any errors. Our cruise control does the same thing. We get a vacuum error for our speed control. I'll have to look for the bad vacuum line. Once our cruise initiates, like yours, it works fine. It is just that sometimes, it doesn't want to activate.

i have the similar problem but no codes on my 99. i have been just dealing with it. i do know that it won't kick on unless you are doing at least 35 tho. but mine takes effort to get on at any speed. both to set it and to even get the cruise on alone.
