recurring exhaust leak- any ideas?bjd088 04-10-2006, 03:43 PM A while back I replaced my exhaust manifold. Since then I seem to burn gaskets in the manifold up. The vehicle is an '87 pickup 22r.I'm not sure, should I lok-tite the threads or something? KimMG 04-11-2006, 04:34 AM Check the surfaces on the head and manifold to make sure they are straight (no gaps). Did you replace the studs and nuts? Are the nuts loosening? Are you using the same brand gasket everytime? What brand gasket are you using? bjd088 04-18-2006, 01:57 AM No I didn't replace the studs and nuts. It isn't the actual manifold that is leaking, it is the brass tubing on the outside. The only way to get the fitted gaskets for it is to buy the complete set for about sixty dollars. I just used the high temp. gasket roll and cut my own. As for gaps, I tried to sand them down, then fill in the small gaps that were left. I can't buy the part new, so I'm out of ideas on that. TNRabbit 04-27-2006, 10:52 AM You will continue to burn up self-cut gaskets like this if you do not have the manifold machined true flat.:frown: vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
