It has been my experience that when the subframe takes a hit the car never drives right again.

If you want to spend the time and money fixing it be my guest, but as for me I wouldn't. Part the car out or use it for parts for another project but any frame hit usually means death.

I had a friend who purchased a car that was in a head-on and the car was fixed as you are planning and it would 'drive sideways'. It is very hard (but not impossible) to get the car straight and true, espically a uni-body.

Since it is a 96, finding another one should be easy unless you have put a lot of money into upgrades and really love the car.

I guess what I am saying is, if you have the money and want to try, go ahead. But spending big $$ and tons of time fixing a car that you can buy for a lot less then these repairs cost seems a waste of time, but hay, I love my bird too so I understand.

Good luck, let me know how it turns out if you decide to fix it.
