Coolant spills out of the reserve tank.

Recently my wife’s Jeep water pump gave in. I replaced the water pump and the radiator that consequently started to leak too.

After replacing the water pump, radiator and couple of major hoses the leaking stopped, however when I drive the jeep around the block the water in the reserve bucket increases and start spilling coolant. The temperature gage does not indicate any overheating.

I now have no idea of what to do, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like it could be a head gasket or a cracked head.

This may seem too obvious but, did you leave enough room for expansion?

You didn't by any chance reverse the thermostat did you?

You didn't by any chance reverse the thermostat did youCan it be put in backwards?I dont know about the G.C. I havent had to mess with mine yet but most thermostats cant be put in backwards these days.It could be bad though, they tend to go with out warning. The thought of the thermostat came to me after I went to bed last night. Something you might want to check. It sure sounds as though he is getting some bak pressure though.I hope it is something simple, but when my daughters head cracked it acted just like that.

Not sure but I'm just thinking, all that work, pump, radiator, hoses, it could just be something simple.

Thank you everyone for you help.

I have been checking up on the coolant issue for the past couple of days. My observations are: half of the extra tank coolant boiled out. So far noting have been spilling out lately. The gage shows that the engine does not overheat. While driving the heater indicator drops when the valve opens. However when I park the vehicle and turn off the engine, that’s when the pressure starts pushing the coolant out to the reserve tank.

I am not sure if that’s a normal thing, I have never observed anything like that before. Perhaps Bob is right, maybe it lacked expansion room.

I will keep watching this abnormality and I will let you all know.

P.S. I did not replace the thermostat. It’s the original one.

That's what the overflow tank is for. If you were to hang around long enough you'll see it be sucked back in as the engine cools. Which you also want happening. That will tell you that your system is a sealed closed system and you're not losing any coolant anywhere.

Sounds like you may have some air in the system. Try opening the radiator cap when cold, putting the front of the vehicle uphill, and let it run until it cycles the thermostat 2-3 times. You'll probably see some bubbles coming out of the radiator.
