99-04 Stang GT vs. Me90redgt 04-08-2006, 10:25 PM Today on my way home from work i ran into a very nice sounding black mustang GT 99-04 body style. I was behind him at the light so i had to make up some ground. no biggie as soon as i heard him go pedal to the metal, I went WOT. Rounded out 2nd and passed him in 3rd gear. He said that all he had was a cams (SOHC remember) and an intake kit. I dunno if he was telling the truth or not but that thing sure moved pretty good for those mods. He also had his young kid with him. By young i mean middle school. Other than the LS1 i raced yesterday, this was my best match yet from a N/A car. Also one of the faster N/A modulars i've run into too. I gave him props and we went our seperate ways. Cool guy too. Hey Aaron (Bulldog71SS), i'm catchin' ya ;) j/k -The Stig- 04-08-2006, 11:04 PM I always thought about grabbing the 5.4 SOHC out of a F150, slapping on the Cobra/Mach1 heads and dropping it into one of those older '96-00 Stangs. I think it'd be a pretty potent combo... obviously with a few goodies, but yeah... that'd probably scoot pretty good. 2000LS1Z28 04-09-2006, 03:16 PM Good kill. The only 99+ GT's i've seen that impressed me are running on nitrous. They seem to take very well to nitrous. N/A they really don't inspire any fear. I have yet to see one that is cammed, as no one seems to go that route. -The Stig- 04-09-2006, 04:21 PM Well, It's damn expensive for the multi-cam engines. Here's a set of cams for a SOHC 4.6 at $587.88 (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=CCA%2D102700&N=4294840044+115&autoview=sku) Here's a set of cams for a DOHC 4.6 at $1199.95 (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=CCA%2D106460&N=4294840044+115&autoview=sku) So, you can see why they choose nitrous over cams... it's much cheaper to run. Personally, I'd rather have the cams... sounds better. VR43000GT 04-09-2006, 05:15 PM ^^ Not to mention cams aren't going to destroy your engine as easy. -The Stig- 04-09-2006, 05:18 PM ^^ Not to mention cams aren't going to destroy your engine as easy. That as well, if used improperly Nitrous can end your motors life in a heartbeat.:shakehead VR43000GT 04-09-2006, 06:09 PM Plus cams are always working for you unlike NO2, you dont have to refill a bottle (which can get costly if you use the NO2 a lot), its not illegal to have aftermarket cams on the street, cams wont blow up if you get in an accident, etc. 98StangGT 04-09-2006, 07:10 PM On an N/A 2V, stage 1 cams + a tune gave me 27RWHP, that was with almost full boltons too.... You then consider the set cams themselves cost about $600... Then, if you can't install them yourself, it could be anywhere near $400 depending on where you live.... Me? I did both cams and N20 and was happy with it, but if I had to mod another 2V, I'd skip the cams unless I had plans for a forged bottom end. And N20 won't "blow up", it's not flammable. Maybe you've seen The Fast and the Furious one too many times.... Should your car catch on fire, it could raise the temperature of the bottle to a dangerous point. But in most cases the cap is the first thing to go since it can handle less pressure than the bottle itself... So for N20 to be dangerous in a crash, the cirumstances would have to be pretty grim... -The Stig- 04-09-2006, 07:33 PM So for N20 to be dangerous in a crash, the cirumstances would have to be pretty grim... Does Johnny Tran and his brother Lance shooting your car up with Uzi's from Bikes constitute as pretty grim?:grinyes: 98StangGT 04-09-2006, 07:44 PM Does Johnny Tran and his brother Lance shooting your car up with Uzi's from Bikes constitute as pretty grim?:grinyes: Lol. I love that movie! What I don't get is that the Chinese guy was pissed at Vin Diesel because he narked him out to the cops or whatever.... But neither of them really seemed to care when they destroyed their "$80,000" car.... 2000LS1Z28 04-09-2006, 08:32 PM Plus cams are always working for you unlike NO2, you dont have to refill a bottle (which can get costly if you use the NO2 a lot),its not illegal to have aftermarket cams on the street, cams wont blow up if you get in an accident, etc. Yes it is. Any state that has emissions regulations can and will bust you for running a cam. I know it California they say the biggest cam you can get is a 224 cam. Oh, and refills are damn expensive. When I had to get nitrous for the former Z28 it rang up to $50 a pop to refill the bottle, and i've heard it costs even more now. P.S. - as stated previously nitrous doesn't blow up when you get into an accident. I had the bottle blow up in the camaro on several occassions. It more or less looked like a freezer afterwards. Of course it dethawed over time. VR43000GT 04-09-2006, 09:19 PM ^^ Yeah in California, but Cali has so many emission restrictions what's not illegal there. And if you get in a crash most of the time you wouldn't have anything to worry about but if your car does start to catch fire then it could be a different story. Thats why some racing est. write on your window whether or not you have N02 so that they know when they go in to put your out if it has caught fire. 98StangGT 04-09-2006, 09:58 PM I think as long as the N20 doesn't mix with fuel you won't have a problem.... But I guess if it were to get hot enough, the pressure could cause the cap to shoot off at a pretty crazy speed. And yeah, Cali sucks the anus for emissions. Anyways, yeah, 2V Stangs dont really respond to anything other than boost and bottle... I wish instead of wasting so much money on the Cam and other crap, I would have just gotten a S/C like I originally intended... O well, I have a new love in my life now:yugosmili 95z28m6 04-09-2006, 10:18 PM Does Johnny Tran and his brother Lance shooting your car up with Uzi's from Bikes constitute as pretty grim?:grinyes: I thought they were cousins? Not saying that cams or NO2 is bad or anything...havent really looked into that. But I do know that with a ATI Procharger on 99-04 stang you can easily look at 1/4 mile into the 12's. Dont know about you guys...but thats kinda fast...:naughty: 90redgt 04-24-2006, 10:32 AM Im pretty sure a 99-04 GT with a nice Procharger would receive some decent respect on the street. Dont know about you guys...but thats kinda fast...:naughty: 12's is fast alright, i just think its cooler to do it without boost. But if i have a choice, i like to race all motor cars. I haven't lost yet to an all motor v8 of similair displacement. I've lost to s/c v8's, a t/c one. An all motor big block, and a nitroused WS6. But i also beat the WS6 after he tried running me without his nitrous (he ran out heh). 90redgt 04-24-2006, 10:36 AM also i have to disagree with you, i'd like to have a Kennebell isntead of an ATI but that's just me. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
