00 grand am will stall at highway speeds allanrigaud 04-08-2006, 04:20 PM
I have a 2000 grand am, every time im on the highway , around 70 or 80 mph the car will stall... so i have to pull out the road and wait like 5 minutes to turn it on again , and then i have to take avenues to get home.. I already change the fuel filter , but it seems that is not the problem. Its weird, because if i drive around avenues the car will run just nice, but on the highway will stall.. what i could be?? maxwedge 04-08-2006, 05:55 PM Only way to find this to check for spark and injector pulse as the first step in the diagnostics, might see if it starts with starter fluid also. DB90483 04-25-2006, 10:07 AM Did you get the problem diagnosed? I'm having the exact same issue with a 2000 SE with the 4 cyl engine. 20 miles or so at 70mph and the engine just cuts out. Wait 5 minutes and it starts back up fine. Kind of dangerous when your in alot of traffic or construction zones with no place to pull over... gravis2000 04-26-2006, 08:00 PM Sounds like the computer is killing the engine. ajtkimmel 05-21-2006, 01:11 AM Just cruising through the GA forum and came across this one. I have a 1997 Blazer that was doing this very same thing and I finally chased the problem down to a junk ignition switch in the steering column. Whether or not it is the same problem or not. I know it is not the same column that is in the GA's but who knows. DB90483 05-22-2006, 09:26 AM Problem resolved for me - Fuel Filter. $15.00 at N@pa and 15 minutes to change (even without the special tool) I never would have thought a fuel filter could intermittently cause the car to quit. xeroinfinity 05-22-2006, 01:21 PM sometimes a faulty crankshaft position sensor will kill the engine, after it gets hot. :dunno: Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
