Well, if it gets worse as you accelerate, it is probably the engine. Transmissions usually don't 'knock' in my experience. They usually just slip or just stop working!

As far as fixing it, you will have to find out what is wrong first. You could just have a valve tap or a worn bearing, ring, seal or as bad as a crank or cam problem. It could even just be carbon build up.

If it is just a mild faint tap try some gas treatment or injector cleaner. Some engines like the 460 in my 72 have very, very low clearance between the piston and cylinder head and if carbon builds up on the top of the piston it hits the bottom of the cylinder heat causing a knock.

Some knocks are just poor gas. This is not bad but will cause problems over time. A valve tap could be an indication of a bad lifter or valve.

Sorry for the long explanation but as I said it could be any number of things from the simple to the serious. Have a well qualified mechanic check it out.

Hope this helps
Mark
