I did a brake job not long ago and had them turned but now they have slowly warped again. Whats the deal? Do I need to replace them? The pads aren't worn out.

This is a very common occurance CF.:banghead: I dont bother turning rotors anymore for that reason. I've had brand-new hi dollar rotors warp after 3 months. That's even more frustrating! It's hit'n miss with rotors.

I had this problem too when I first got the rodeo and with my two previous cars, I knew something wasn't right. Did some research on the web and found the 2 reasons people thought caused the problem. overtightening of the lug nuts, and spraying water on hot rotors. since I freqently wash my cars at the car wash I figured it was the spraying of water on the hot rotors.
I haven't had warped rotors (same rotors) as long as I can remember ever since I stopped spraying the tires while hot. I only clean them in the drive way after they've cooled down.
I think the rotors cool down gradually when it rains cause the waters doesn't hit them directly at once..

Thanks for the input, but I always use a torque wrench when tightening lug nuts ever since I wasted the nuts and studs by overtightening them and I havn't washed the truck since December.

My 1st Rodeo was a rotor eater - never understood why.

Yep, lug nut torque and rapid water cooling thing are supposedly the major causes of warpage. Quality of the rotor casting, the machining of the casting, driving habits/conditions and pad/caliper performance are other keys. To be honest, I think it mostly has to do with the casting. Some are more prone to warpage than others. They are not 'pecision' parts so there will always be irregularity.

Also heard that one good hard stop is all it takes to warp the rotors. If you heat them up quickly, or cool them down quickly, you may run into problems....

I know that if you are welding cast iron you have to pre-heat it, weld it, and then cool it down slowly to avoid warpage.
