about a month ago i installed a "performance chip" to the air intake sensor . just a few days ago my check engine soon light same on . my question is do u think this is a direct result of the chip, but if so why is the light just coming on and why didnt it when i installed it ?. If anyone could help i would appreciate it greatly . Also does anyone know the general cause(s) for the light to come on ? i have taken great care of this car and want to figure out whats wrong with it ..

Please state what model year & engine size you have.

Sounds like you got one of those resistor things off ebay,
which is not a "performance chip".
Get rid of it.

The only thing the resistor does is amplifys the signal from your maf sensor
making it think more air is coming in, causing it to send more fuel.
Get rid of it.

Go to AutoZone & have them read the computer
for the codes that are causing the check engine light.

Did I mention,
Get rid of that resistor thing!

I would say if you remove the chip and the problem fixes itself, YES!

As far as the light, I believe these come on as a result of a sensor, usually the O2 and seeing that you installed a performance chip to the air intake sensor this seems the likely culprit.

I would remove it and see.

I can qurantee that it is the stupid little resistor thing. I (unfortunately) tried that too and wow it was a waste of time and money! I never felt anything for a performance increase and it set off my CEL (check engine light) also. I got rid of it, reset the computer and what'd ya know it was just fine and the light didnt come back on!

DITCH THE STUPID RESISTOR!!!!!

Remember you are dealing with a computer. You cant fool it! It has WAY too many sensors.
