Mystery Noise!wildcatswim 04-05-2006, 10:12 AM My 1999 Sebring LXI Coupe (2 door) has been at my dealer auto shop for 3 days now and they still don't know what is wrong with my car. Over the last 3 weeks, if I back out of my driveway or a parking spot, etc. and turn my wheel hard left as I back out--my car starts making a loud higher pitched hmmmm hmmmm hmmmm noise as I start driving. It usually lasts for about a minute or 4 to 5 blocks and then stops. It doesn't make the noise just driving on the highway--it only appears after I have had to turn the wheel hard right or hard left. I have asked if it has something to do with the wheel bearings or differential--and the mechanic keeps telling me he sees nothing wrong and has taken the tire off, etc. They can't get my car to recreate the noise that I am telling them about. Does anyone have any ideas--I am getting frustrated that the mechanic can't find what the problem is--but obviously there is one or the car wouldn't be making the random noise. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!! workinoutsparky 04-05-2006, 08:54 PM It sounds like to me,,, Like a wheel bearing going bad and you put a load on it when you turn the wheel sharp and once the roller bearings get moving straight it becomes less of a hummmm But usually constant humm that gradually changes with speed is more than less going to be a wheel bearing.... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
