My friend just got an 84 Rabbit 2 door.he wants to add the 2.0 engine.He wants to know if anyone has done this conversion and what did it do in the quarter mile.

Yes, I know a guy with a 2.0. He pulls 16.2 1/4 mile runs.

Not a Rabbit but its the same chassis. My old cabriolet had a 2.0L crossflow in it from a 95 Golf. I never dragged it but it felt considerably slower than my old G60 Rabbits. I'd guess that it would have pulled a mid to high 15.

Why not try a VR6 engine instead.:dunno: The 2.0's aren't all that great.:2cents: I've got a VR6 I'm putting in an '85 Scirocco. :evillol:

then u cant lower the rabbit.. becuz.. your oil pan will hit the road if u slam it.. that would suck lots.. and i think i would just go 4 a 2.)l 16v conversion with a turbo....that will boot i tell you..

Turbo 16V's are pretty quick but then you have the tuning issues.
You can still go kinda low with VR6 Rabbits.

my roomate's golf is VR6 swapped and lowered like hell.. he did hit the oil pan and smashed the oil pickups. it is about 2-3 inches off the ground. even with the heavy ass coilovers tightened. but that was a one time fluke. it is fine now and doesn't hit anymore. go for it.. who cares... its all in fun right. besides. how hard are you going to slam it and who drives fast on roads that are so bumpy you can slam the ground. in that case you need to look into a suspension that is stiff as hell

what about putting in a gti Turbo engine from one of the newer gtis? (i'm a VW noob so bear with me) would this engine even fit into the rabbit? i've been wanting to do a swap, and i love the way rabbits look and i'm sure it would be an amazing autocross car, i just want to give it some balls :)

i did the 2.0L swap using the GTI Rabbit head. This swap is much easier because you don't have to switch over the computer and stuff from the newer cars. The 1.8L 8v head bolt right up to the 2.0L motor. You just need to make sure you have the 2.0L distributor drive gear, and Techtonics Tuning sells an adaptor so you can use your old distributor, they also sell a block off plate you need for the front of the block that covers up and unused oil passage hole. The engine will be taller than your stock one, so you will also need to remove the rear engine mount underneith the car, cut 3/4" out of the middle of it, then weld it back together, this allows the motor to lean back just enough to allow the hood to close. You might not have to do that last thing, but I am using a larger intake and throttle body from an Audi so I needed more room.

Hi here in sa(South Africa) the people go quite big on the mk1's, some of them are so mad thay put 2 x 2.0l 16v Turbo engines in a mk1, but for my actual reply, im running a 1980 Mk1 GT 2door With a 2.0l 8v Stock, if only put on a weber 36DCD and tune the timing a bit and took of every thing off the engine accept for the altenator. Running a electrical water pump and im doing a 14.8 on the 1/4 mile and that is with standart normal road rubber 185/60/14".

is it hard to do the 2.0 swap and did youy have to modify the mounts? or just drop it in?
