Car: 2000 Dodge Stratus L4 2.4L VIN X 4 door sedan

I plan to help a friend swap his stock steering knuckles for larger ones to accommodate larger and more stylish (drilled and slotted) brake rotors. I have never done this exact job before. The most similar thing I have done is replacing all 4 ball joints on a 93 Ford van. So most of the instructions I have consulted (alldatadiy.com for this particular car, as well as the Haynes Guide) are pretty understandeable to me. I have gone through both the alldata and Haynes Guide instructions very carefully, and would like to get a few questions answered, if possible, so I am sure I clearly understand the procedures before I begin. Any help on my questions from any of you guys experienced in this kind of work would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!

OK here goes...

1) One general point of confusion is, the Haynes Guide differentiates between the "sedan" and the "coupe". My friend definitely has the "sedan". The Haynes Guide instructions for the "Sedan" indicate that the entire strut assembly will have to be completely removed from the vehicle before rmoving the steeriing knuckle. But the alldatadiy.com instructions for this particular vehicle/VIN (which are very detailed with lots of diagrams) say nothing about removing the strut assembly (and compressing the springs, etc etc etc). Which one is right? Haynes, or alldata?

2) The alldatadiy instructions, at the bottom of step 13 has the following cautionary Note: "CAUTION: Pulling steering knuckle out from vehicle after releasing from ball joint can separate inner CV joint." OK, thanks a lot alldata, but what do I do to *avoid* separating the inner CV joint, and what do I do if I mess up and actually *do* separate the thing?

Following step 14 is another Note: "NOTE: Care must be taken not to separate the inner CV joint during this operation [separating the knuckle from lower balljoint stud]. Do not allow driveshaft to hang by inner CV joint, driveshaft must be supported."

-- should I support the driveshaft with a (non vehicle-supporting) jackstand, or is it best to wire the driveshaft somewhere to the frame?

3) I know I cannot reuse the castellated nuts or cotter pins. These must be replaced. Is there any place I can get these other than from a dealer (where they charge a fortune for each nut -- and I need four of them)? Advance auto has locknuts, but they are not the exact same thing. The advance auto ones have a separate locking mechanism that fits over a regular (non castellated) nut. I really would prefer to get an exact match for the castellated nuts.

Thanks again for any help . . .
