I own a 1988 thunderbird turbo coupe with a 2.3 engine and I am having a bit of a problem. After it has been running a while, maybe 10 minutes give or take 5, it starts to sputter and tries to die. If I pull to the side of the road and put it in neutral and rev up the engine for about 3-5 minutes it returns back to normal. Its like something is passing through but I changed the fuel filter a couple days ago. Any thoughts? I swear all my vehicles are going to hell lately but especially this one:banghead: . I noticed this afternoon when it was sitting the RPM reved up to about the 2 and then it started sputtering after 2 minutes.

Clogged injectors, maybe?
Dirty air filter?
Fouled MAF Sensor?

hey, sounds like a fuel pressure problem, might be your fuel pump. when you first turn your key into the "on" position without turning over the engine, can you hear the fuel pump moan, or make any other odd sound? if so, you might want to get the pressure tested. It could also be a vacuum problem. if the vehicle was in an accident recently, it could also be the inertia switch preventing proper fuel flow.

I'd get another opinion before doing anything! It does not sound like an exhaust problem to me, but I don't know everything. Good luck!
