replaced crank position sensor....still stalls

I own a 1995 Buick Riviera which has become the bane of my existence. It has a new ignition module, new fuel pump, radiator, alternator all new relays....Car was stalling out, sometimes it would start right up,sometimes if you unhooked the battery for 10 minutes it would start back up,each time running either a few hours or days until it would stall again. We live way out in the country and its hard to get thids car into town, so we do all the work ourself. Last October wee gave up and bought a 500 dollar plymouth so we could have transportation and parked Christine for the winter after the last episode of running like a scalded dog and then just dying. Never fired up again no matter if we unhooked the battery.Came into some money and after many discussions with mechanics at the Buick dealership,we decided to replace the crank position sensor as EVERYTHING seemed to point to that. Lo and Behold it ran for about 2 minutes with the new Crank position sensor,at an idle, didnt give it gas or touch any thing and SHE DIED AGAIN AND WILL NOT START!!!! Of the 3 relays on the firewall, the middle one was buzzing treally loud when you turned on the ignition but did not try to start the engine. After you try to start the engine, the buzzing quits. It has never made that buzzing noise before, not sure what that middle relay is for. Please help if anyone can...this car is startin to cause marital problems..I am sick of fooling with it and my hubby is in love with it and wont stop trying to fix it .Oh its a supercharged engine, I did not mention that before.VROOM VROOM Thanks, Cheryl:banghead:

Hi Cher,
My 97' stalls too with no indecation why. But always starts up again. So far.
I changed crank sensor and temp sensor to get no change. Did you get any yellow light or codes an such? Sounds like you changed everything but computer. Was thinkin' that might be my prob but I'm waiting for it to get worse so I'll have more info. Good luck.

No lights, no codes. Did have it at Autozone last year and the guy tried the scanner, but my 95 is obd 1 and he couldnt get a reading doing the trick with the paper clip. After that tho, the abs light stays on. I am starting to think this car is a lemon. I have read dozens of posts where people never resolved the problem... I ended up buying a 1990 plymouth for 500 bucks so I could get to work. I have put too much money in this stupid car. My hubby thinks its the computer....Cheryl

Ya, my abs light is on ,also. It started to come on sometimes, now all the time. But the brakes work great. Can't get them to lock up.

The computer is not returnable. Might try to get one from salvage yard.

Good luck

Well, we assumed it HAD to be the computer,so we bought a new one, still wont start, now its not getting a spark and it was yesterday. maybe I need another ignition control module and or coils. I have a reall good shop up the road who says they will diagnose it on the big scanner for free. Will keep posted, We may end up parting this car out.

Well. after the last post when I said we replaced the PCM,and it still would not start,we unhooked the battery and went to bed.Hubby got up this morning, went out and plugged the battery back up, then he unplugged the ignition module,(the plug under the 3 coils)pushed it in and out a few times, kinda to scrape it clean, locked the bolt back down on the plug, wiggled a few wires on some sensors (TPS and map sensor). Got in it and turned the key, battery was really weak from trying to start it the night before, but it turned over real slow and fired right up. Been starting it up and shutting it off all day, seems like its maybe gonna be ok, we just arent sure what we did to get it running and we are afraid to take it out on the road!will keep ya updated. I have to say the electronics are weird on this car,I would agree with another post I read that called them "sketchy"
Cheryl, owner of Christine, the demon Riviera.:grinyes::rofl:
