Hi, well i've went from, tiburon, to prelude, back to trans am, and blah blah. The celica gts of 2004 has always been at the back of my mind though finally my dad mentioned that i should check out toyota, so i'am looking to that now. I'm going to be buying a car in the next year or so, and for motivational purposes of saving a down payment, i want to start collecting knowledge on the celica gt-s, manual trans of course. Are they dependable, andyone have any idea of what the stock qt mile times are? And basically just how you feel about toyotas in general or even better your late model celica, thanks a lot guys, much appreciated!

i think he meant gt-s

so yes a gt-s will run high 14s- low 15s. the fastest stock time ive ever seen is a 14.78 held by a member of this forum named vip09.

are they reliable? not as reliable as the 90s celicas but it is still a toyota so yes.

opinion on toyota- celicas rule, toyota sucks for discontinuing them.

do not bother with an auto GT-S though. it will never hit lift.

get a 00-01 gts and replace the lift bolts as soon as you get it, those years will have a higher rev limiter so you can get more lift. 04-05 is good to, those will be the most reliable yet. the 00-01 will be reliable once you replace the lift bolts. ($12 or so from toyota)

it really does depend on the driver on how fast it will go. youve driven a prelude so i would home you understand the concept of lift. as long as the prelude had vtec.

there are more mods you can do to the 7th gens to bring the time down.

I am confused to what the "lift" is and what it needs bolts for?

lift is when the vvtli kicks in, similar to 'vtec' your car is a GT and doesnt have it. its the difference between 40hp on the GT and GT-S

I have the GT but I have the VVT-i. Where do the lift bolts go in the engine and what does the "lift" lift?

the gt has vvt-i not vvtl-i the l stands for lift. the lift is a klifting of the valves to allow more air/fuel into the engine.

If you buy a 2000 GT-S, Change your liftbolts and check the part# on your accesory drivebelt tensioner. The toyota dealership where I live told me about $300 for them to replace it. He said the part itself was $196.

When the VVTL-i kicks in the car accelerates much faster and you arent able to stay in lift long before shifting. Ive had mine up to 110 in fourth gear so yea its a pretty quick car for a 1.8. Hope this helps.
