hi
i am sure glad i found you, hopefully someone can help me out....

1991 Isuzu Trooper V6. I need to know what type of spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotary button, and anything else I need, to do a major tune-up on my Trooper. I know I have read that you can't just buy any spark plug for them that it has to be a particular kind. Can someone let me know what they are. I appreciate any advice you can give me.

Hey turtle,
NGK or Bosh Platinums have always worked well for me in my 91 V6 Trooper. Only the newer (00+ I think) Isuzu engines use the plugs as a sensor and require Denso plugs. They should come pre-gapped but it never hurts to check.
I wouldn't spend extra money on top of the line plug wires... You won't notice any difference and even the inexpensive brands ($30-40) will outlast the vehicle. Just make sure that the plug ends of the wires have straight ends on them (not L shaped). Even though the book says they will fit, many of the non oem brands have L shaped ends that rub on the heads or heat shields.

What other parts are needed for a 1991 Trooper V6 (gasoline)? I'm picking up a repair manual at the same time as the parts, but just wanted to know if there's anything besides the normal plugs, wires, cap and rotor?

Also, how the heck do I get some of those plugs out??? I tried to do a compression test on the vehicle before I bought it, but could only test 3 of the 6 cyl's. What kind of tools (which type of knuckles, etc) do other 91 V6 owners use?

Thanks for the help! Day 2 of ownership and already lovin' it.

I've only had a problem starting my truck twice, once the Alternator, and once the control module. Since you are going to have the cap off, you should replace the control module.

Sounds like good advice - is the control module an Isuzu dealer-only type part, and are you referring to the ignition module? Do you know the relative cost of one of these parts?

Thanks!

It is about $20, and you can get it at any parts store. Yeah the ignition module.
