hey all i went somewhere for spring break, and discovered that my recently repaired (or so i thought) oil pan is leaking.. badly! i had replaced the stock sealant which was originally worn away with a cork gasket i picked up at an auto shop... was i supposed to add some sort of sealant or something? or did i not bolt down the pan tight enough?? if the cork gasket is not the best choice, what should i use to seal my pan properly? (i'm talking about the small black pan that the drain plug is connected to, this is the pan that's leaking) Your response will be GREATLY appreciated, i MUST have this fixed tomorrow! thanks

I wish I read this earlier when folks were open to get parts. I never use cork gaskets without using High Tac Sealer. I use the stuff in the spray can, works great.

It might be the front seal leaking, I'd make sure its the pan before removing it again. Cork will split if tightened to tightly though. I was under my 96 today changeing oil, the pan on it looked quite simple to remove if it needed to be done. The front seal was leaking (pouring) on mine a while back it to was simple to replace. Good luck.

Sorry I havn't been back in a while- anyway what I call the front seal is the seal for the harmonic balancer. Mine was pouring, I removed the inner fender from the passenger side, removed the belts, removed the bolt that holds the balancer in place the balancer slide right off, used a seal puller or screw driver to pry the old seal out, bump in the new one and reassemble. took me about 1 hour and it was the first time for me on a Nissan. Good luck.
