I have a 93 ford thunderbird lx, I have replaced the stock stearo with an after market stearo and I was going down the road with the volume a little loud and It just turned off as in kaput. I have also checked both proper fuses which include the radio and the car's fuse block, they are not blown. When I put my stock stearo back in the only thing that worked was the illumination lites came on but there was no sound. I did heard the speakres make a sound but there was no music or any digital indicators on the stearo its self. Is their any thing else that could have caused this problem, any help would be greatly appricated. Also I do not belive that the issue is with the cd player its self because the stock stearo does not work as well.

Are you running an amp? If so, check the fuse on it - as well as the connections. You also might want to check the wires behind your aftermarket stereo before the wiring harness - one might have come loose.

did it have a premiuim sound system originally on it? If it did there are a lot more connections not to mention the piece of crap amp in the trunk that could be the culprit. If you have a volt meter check the voltage at the head unit. Check both the constant power (from the battery, usually yellow) and the switch power (from the key, usually red).

Sorry I didn't keep you guys updated but after I typed this up, I relized that I was being a dumb ass and I remembered that I can use a Test Light to check the wires to see which one was shorting. I found out that the wire from the battery was shorting out and I just ran a new one to the battery and it fixed the whole thing. But thanks guys for the help but check out my other thread to see if you can help there.
