what is curb weight and displacement?rasheed 07-03-2002, 02:46 PM does anyone know exactly what curb weight is and which is better more or less? also who here knows what displacement is? and what is good when comparing engines? esco 07-13-2002, 05:27 PM Curb weight is self explanatory. The weight that is related to your turning, like for instance an Escalade feels bigger and turns slower becuase it has such a heavy curb weight than that of a car like a Lancer which feels nimble. Displacement is size. For example the Lancer has 2.0L of displacement. A superbike like a honda CBR929 has 929CC of displacement in other countries they use CC(cubic centimeters) for cars even, in the us they tend to use litres. When i compare engines i compare they're efficiency in makin power with the displacement they have. For example one of the most efficient engines around is on the S2000, with only 2.OL(4cyl) of displacement this NA engine makes 240hp, thats super efficient!(cost a hell of alot to develop i bet!) When u look at an engine like a ford 4.0L mustang V6 it has significantly less power than those of its japanese counterparts using less displacement, thats why those engines aren't as smooth, powerful or refined as japanese engines that are smaller and more efficient. Also when comparing engines is the Torque that an engine has, even though the S2000 has 240hp the torque is well under 200(don't exactly know) And findin out when that torque comes to life. Engines that have alot of low end torque will get you off the line quickly while engines which power comes to life at a higher rpm like the S2000's u usually have to rev the hell out of which is to me alot of fun when u have such a light and nimble car. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
