Got Me a 95 Tracker - Finally

Finally got me a 95 Tracker 5spd, White, Convertible w/AC, 4wd - manual hubs - 155k/mi. No rust to speak of - pic to follow. Got my winter beater now that winter is almost over - ha.

Not sure what else I will find but already the headlights need work. Looks like someone broke the adjuster on drivers side. Both lights have a chip/hole from a rock. The manual hub on the drivers side started sqeaking the 2nd day. And the da*m jack is missing. Looks like it was never greased. The door switch for the interior light appears to be intermittent. Will have to check that out.

oh, Oh, OH, almost forgot - The drivers window guide (or slide?) is broken inside the door causing the window to cock or jam when rolling up. It goes down OK. My buddy says his 90 Tracker did the same thing. Is this a common problem?

I am not whining, in fact, I had fun driving it the past couple of days. Now I am looking forward to the next snow storm. I am looking forward to running up/down my hill with the ATV's when it snows :) - I am sure it will - if it doesn't, hey that is even better. OH and the heater IS awesome. In fact had to turn it Off.

oh, And found out the backup lites don't work. The fuse & bulbs check out good. Does anyone know where the the switch is for the back lights? The local Advanced Auto didn't have a repair manual so I will have to look around or ask them to order one.

So far it seems to run good (25mpg @65mph, ~3500 rpm), tho I am worried about the high mileage. That is twice the mpg my parked F150 gets. These Trackers seem to be geared pretty low.

Someone in my area is parting out a 95 Tracker. Any parts I should try to get? Because I may need soon?
Thanks for any thoughts,

I just got a 95 2wd tracker from my brother. I wan't be able to go and pick it up until the 18th of this month. I know that the car looks and runs good, but has a problem with the auto trans. It doesn't shift out of low gear. Looking forward to play with it.

for the trans problem, try checking the vacumm modulator at the trans, and the lines going to it

I will check it as soon as I get it home. Do you know the model number of the transmission, I would like to get a book that covers the trans.

So far I replaced the front hubs with Warn hubs I got from a friend. Fixed the drivers window - had to replace the regulator then lube the track so the plastic piece in the regulator didn't break again. Replaced the drivers headlight - passenger side still has a chip in it. Boy those screws rust right in.

Next up is the gear oil - the tranny is stiff & I am hoping a change will smooth it out. Hopefully tomorrow for that. I also need a drivers seat - it is pretty uncomfortable & with the high mileage seems like the springs have seen better days. Anyone have any recommendations on a more comfortable seat to fit a Tracker?

Still not sure if I should try to wire up Daytime Driving lights to the headlights or just put fogs on it. I think I found the problem with the back-up lights. There is a 2-wire connector (came apart somehow) on top of the tranny - you can see from underneath just not enuff slack in the harness to be able to pull it down where you can get 2 hands on it. One of those where you can see or touch it - just can't do both at the same time. Plus all the grease up there makes it slippery. But I believe that is the harness running back to the back-up lites.

oh and trying to find a squeak that seems to be coming from the Pass. door- just can't seem to find it. Other than that just having fun driving it, going down ATV trails when I find them. This thing is geared to climb. oh I have seen 90 Sidekicks with adjustable steering wheel - sure wish this 95 Tracker had one. And cruise control too.
